2011 RAM 1500 trans rebuild / replace?

Here in Alaska there are lots of Volvos laying around on pallets.....broken. Cummins, John Deere and Lugger seem to be the most popular diesels up here. A few Komatsu engines that are licensed copies of bigger Cummins have made their way into a few boats that I frequent as well.

You could most like make a breakwater out of 6-71's.

Other a couple water pumps and valve adjustments I never in 19 years had a bolt off the two 4BT150's in the boat.

At the risk of outing myself as something other than a mere diesel enthusiast......

I cannot in good conscious recommend any V config Cummins as a suitable replacement for anything Caterpillar in the maritime world. Inline config, maybe, depending on the Cat. Electronic engines are exciting on paper, but can become a horrific nightmare out on the water, expecially common rail fuel systems...

If you have a good running but tired 3400/3500 series Caterpillar, short of an non-repairable block failure, or a boat that requires USCG Polar Sea/Star level disassembly to R&R, rebuild it. Or replace it with a like for like.

A 3126 can be hit or miss but if they're not HEUI or common rail, there isn't much there to break if you watch your temperatures. The Cummins inline 6 non common rail or electronic pump can be a viable alternative, but it would be just as financially feasible to rebuild the 3126 as swap it.

Dealers just love to sing the praises of electronic engines and common rail computerized magic voodoo fuel systems, and sales account managers(harks) just love to PowerPoint your fuel savings and cost bottom lines with fancy animation and wonderful oooooh's and aaaaah's but the guys in the white coveralls waiting at the dock for Crowley to tow you home will tell ya, stay mechanical until you have absolutely no other choice.

And all antiquated dinosaurs!

I replaced a 292 I-6 in a 1963 Chevy sub with 3.73 gears with a 283 V8. It went from a truck that would pull a building over to one that ran at freeway speeds much better. Had to buy two parts for the conversion. The passengers side motor mount tower and the V8 fan shroud.

We went from piston engines to jets in aircrafts.
Anybody here who wants to go back? :D
I do.
Sit behind PW2800 or A1710 or RM...don't remember the series... and you'll know the difference. Don't get me wrong, sitting in front of couple JT79's leaves know doubt.
I've love the Grummans', especially the F6-F that came with a power backup should the 28 take a dump:D:D
