Need Advice: Towing I-70 westbound out of Denver

He is the only one so far in this thread that has not exceeded the weight rating of his hitch :D

Being a retired mechanical engineer, I do know what happens to steel when it is stress beyond it's yield points. My current hitch is rated for 18K and my trailer as towed is around 12k gross. I have weighed the truck and trailer to insure this.

Plenty of stoopid folk that don't live in the country Jim. I think it is safe to say we redneck country folk are outnumbered by the city folk and by default there are more stoopid city folk than stoopid redneck folk :p:D

I didn't say he lived in the country nor the city, only that he was a "redneck". I have seen plenty of uneducated college graduates, do stupid stuff that they should know better when they try to do something.

Second truck in a few days on the same local highway, 1st was a load of hay, looked about like this one. What are they doing??

What are they doing??

Someone is about to play the real life version of pick up sticks :D:D

Was weather a factor for either? Wind, rain, fog, etc. Looks pretty calm in the pic.

Could well be just coincidental 2 guys weren't paying attention at the same place and paid the price....

I don't know anything about weather or night or day. The way I understand the load of hay, a curve was involved, must be behind the camera. The lumber looks straight but I don't know for sure. AZ DPS is even helping load the hay:)

It’s spring steel welding rod. Pretty sure there’s an industrial supply catalog rep somewhere out there selling it....

WOW.... A friend of mine sent me a picture of a similar truck towing a big boat like that... clearly overloaded, and boat was on a mobile home frame!! These guys are out doing it and posting on social media sites like its a badge of honor... (look at me!), Sad that someone has died due to pure negligence, lack of understanding of basic vehicle ability and physics, and more than likely greed!! Not to mention putting yet another spotlight on those of us whom follow the rules. I've always said just because you can pull it doesn't mean you can stop it.
