You know, to me it seems like many of the new-fangled features they are pushing in vehicles today just increase the cost and pander to the inattentive and big city drivers. I've seen several commercials "promoting" par-taying, seat-dancing, hands flying through the air, not watching the road, or engrossed in conversations with the passengers in the back seat, not paying attention to driving the vehicle, and daydreaming, hands off the steering wheel, fiddling with stuff. And they wonder why Teslas crash and burn when the operator puts in on autopilot.
Enough of my rantings.
I'm sure you will enjoy your new 2022 - a bunch!.

I am really most exited about the fact that it should have power side steps.....that and the increased payload over my 2500.....
I do pull a trailer 90% of the time ( 10000 pounds) sometime the dumper with 12000ponds.
And to be honest I had cruse control on my last 4 or 5 trucks and never used it....like you said I pay attention when I drive....
I do 50k a year on average and have for the last 20 some years with 0 accidents...

I wouldn't buy a new vehicle without it, just no to the old fixed speed CC.

Surround Camera the same - just awesome technology.

Heated seats, heated steering wheel, surround camera, Heated mirrors including the convex one, the lights on mirror for when you back up to trailer, are my favourite options. Canada gets cold for a long time in winter.....cruise control , exhaust brake I do not like using in winter.....( 5 months of the year up here....

Our new Ford Ranger has the adaptive cruise. We've had the truck for two months and still haven't had the opportunity to try it. My daughter claims that she likes it though.

I have to wonder how we got along without all the nanny gadgets for so long but suddenly can't live without them...

That's not a dig at you, Ozy. I get frustrated that as a society we have come to rely on crap like this. People don't need this stuff. They just need to pay attention.

Maybe we need to look at this "crap" as you call it from the other prospective. You are tooling along on the freeway and the guy behind you is not watching the traffic ahead very closely. You have to brake hard because for an accident. That guy behind you was running on "crap" like ACC, and his vehicle stops without hitting you. Now are you glad he optioned for this "crap" feature?

I was rear ended at at least 30mph setting on I-5 dead on by a Honda Pilot in my 98 12V with ZERO crumple zone. I am still suffering from that impact. I still don't want that "CRAP".

Well there was way less traffic on the road some 30 years ago, back the the standard CC worked just fine.
But today it's useless as the roads I travel usually are crammed full with cars. So, either you use manual throttle or ACC - CC no way to use that anymore.

I hate adaptive cruise control. I use regular or none at all.
My truck is too old for the many of the nanny gadgets. Our 2012 Grand Cherokee has many of the gadgets. The only gadgets on the JGC that I like are the auto wipers and the blind spot lights in the side view mirrors. The auto high beams are good about 50% of the time. Often times they don't switch to high beams when I want them too. Sometimes the street lights seem to keep them on low beams. Sometimes when on certain curvy roads the dash lights up for me to hit the brakes. Very annoying.

Complacent driver needs to devote time to driving. These "tools" promote the complacency. I will say it is much better than regular cruise control for that feature. I use it sparingly and only in light traffic when I do. I do not use it when towing.

And the nanny gadgets certainly don't help people to focus any better. God help our younger generation that is learning to drive with all of these crutches when they have to actually drive a vehicle without them. It's almost like teaching them to not pay attention right off the rip. My kids both learned how to drive and passed their driving test in vehicles that were older than them. Standard shift no less. When we would get on the freeway or highway to go somewhere I would make them drive without CC, everytime. Make them learn to drive a consistent speed, with their own right foot. It doesn't matter what they WILL be driving in the future. If they learn on the "hard" stuff it only makes them a better, safer more aware driver.

That crap didn't work out too well for this guy in his fancy Tesla with auto pilot.

Your example and my picture both prove the same point. People abuse these safety devices and expect them to do things they are not designed for or become too complacent in trusting them instead of putting down all the distractions and just driving.

im sure the gadgets are nice, however, i live in colorado. that means a windshield almost every year, because of the gravel on the roads they spread for winter. anyone price a windshield for a truck with the auto wipers, lane departure, etc ( whatever the bells are on the newest trucks )? i read one for a f250 is in the high 2 thousand range. ill keep my "dumb" truck for awhile anyway, where the glass costs 240. cheers comrades! merry christmas!

Only gadgets that I really like on my 16 is the handsfree cellphone speaker and backup camera. I don't need a computer to slow down or speed me up, automatically brake for me or parallel park my pickup because I learned that Crap when I started driving.

I enjoy some the of the new features, but I also enjoy driving my option free Jeep with a manual transmission. Time and place.

I can tell you my kids will not be learning how to drive with this stuff, not even a backup camera. They will be taught it’s a tool and not how you drive all the time. Learn the basics first.
