My 18 is a tight squeak getting the filter out as an A/C line is in the way taking the filter out the fender. Just A little more production variation would require bending the line to get the filter to fit through the hole in the fender.

It’s always nice to read about alternative ways to do things @Cummins12V98

WOO-HOO someone with an open mind!!!

lol, I almost snorted my beer. You are the most closed minded individual in this conversation, but you are excited about someone with an open mind. o_O:p

I did fender and top on my ‘18, and stuck with top. It made sense.

I’ve only done fender on my ‘22, but won’t try the top as there is no need. If I can get the over tightened OEM filter off with ease any normally tight filter should be no sweat. It’s not that I’m opposed to it, I just don’t see the point with the fender redesign… it’s just reality, not being closed minded.

Have you personally tried the fender on a ‘19+?

I found the same on the ‘18 and went out the top since it was faster and easier.

Lots more room in the fender opening on the ‘22.

OK so you used to be a TOP GUY now you are a bottom side guy. Did you buy the filter plug so you can pre fill the filter and remove without spilling?

I have the plug, it was a gift from a friend.

I don’t prefill the filters. I don’t see the point. My 05 had a real oil psi gauge in the cam journal above the ECM and oil pressure came up faster with a new filter in September than it did in February on a normal start.

The filter goes outside in and is slow to fill without pressure. Filling the middle does more harm than good as virgin oil is far from clean and oil poured in the middle isn’t filtered before going thru the motor.

Before I relocated my filter, thru the fender was no problem. Plenty of room to spin filter loose, then drop down into space and tilt out thru the opening! Did once without plug and twice with plug, Much better and cleaner with the plug! Just leave it to "each their own"! Do it how you want! TOP, BOTTOM , SIDE, it doesn't matter as long as it gets done! To me, the side thru fender seems much better choice as you're not leaning over the fender and possibly causing scratches. This comes from the dealership days, avoid over the fender whenever possible to prevent damage. Even with fender covers, damage can still occur. Just let the debate DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p:D

and there it is folks.....team "from the top" is not going to let these antagonists sell their propaganda unhindered! Must stop the through the fender talk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!o_Oo_Oo_O

But where is team “pay the dealer”??? They must really be falling behind.

I used a plier style oil filter wrench on my 99 fleetguard filters. Bad thing is it dug into the sides of the canister pretty bad on the old filter. I would always let the truck run for a couple minutes to heat it up. The bust the old filter loose and let it sit and drain back down New filter was put on hand tight about half full of oil. When it got hot it never leaked New truck 2022 thru the fender well I think I might need a Genos strap wrench . Now if I can just get my step son to pull the drain plug and put it back in I might be set for my oil changes. I do take care of his two girls. Paybacks I call it.
