Looking at a new 2022 Longhorn. Searching through the forums the CP4 recall was for 2019-2020 trucks. Should be ok with a 2022?

If I do get it, will be taking it on a 6,000 mile RV trip...a little worried about taking a brand new truck on a long trip. Should I be?

22's have any known bugs to look out for?

Thanks...

The CP4 was last installed in the MY20 trucks. The 21+ engines use a newer version of the CP3 that was used from 03-18.

No issues taking a new truck on the road trip, but be aware there is a breakin period. The owners manual says no towing the first 500 miles and max speed of 50 for the first 500 miles towing. This is for the gears and not the engine.

Many people ignore that breakin without any side effects.

No real issues with the ‘22’s. There are some Uconnect bugs and such, but that’s normal on any modern rig.

Is the truck an HO or SO? Some Aisin issues with a bad snap ring for part of ‘22. Trucks build Aug-Oct of ‘22 seem to have the highest failure rate. It’s still pretty rare thou.

I bought the 7/100 zero deductible and it worked out perfectly.

Go to RV.NET and look in "Tow Vehicles" section and then thread "Ram Cummins/Aisin Failures"

Not a sky is falling guy but I would likely wait for a 23.

The ‘23’s aren’t all free of the Aisin potential issues and lot more gripes on missing features and functionality issues with them too.

I will be 79 so 8 years 60 k equal about 7.5 k a year. Im not a high mileage driver. John’s plan doubles the miles which is probably right for him

I cant speak to anyone else’s 2022 but so far since nov of 21 and 31k miles no real issues with mine. Seat belt retractor was very weak and they replaced it and my heated steering wheel went out they replaced the clockspring has been fine since. However that is long way from a long term review.

I haven’t noticed anything on the forums that would indicate that 2022’s aren’t any good. Nor would I take one or two negative threads on forums to make my decision. The truck he is looking at doesn’t even have an Aisan trans in it. If you look back over the years every generation of ram has had its issues kdp, vp44, 47re, lift pumps, bad blocks, dpf, egr, scr later year injection pumps what year of ram out there didn’t have some “potential” gremlins in its history. If you are waiting for the perfect vehicle to come out you are going to be waiting a very long time. And by the time you realize that was a perfect vehicle they will have moved on to the next generation or set of updated features.

Agreed... I bought a 2020 (in Dec of 2020) and drove it 25k miles across county towing my 5er biting my nails the entire time pining about the CP4.2 I had.. only thing that broke was the EGR valve and left me in Laramie for a few days.....

100 per cent right on if your waitjng for the perfect truck you will never have one it’s just not possible

This is true!!! BUT like the 98 12V was the golden child of the 12 valves I think the 16-18 will be the same for the 4th gens. My 15 is great but a couple features were better in the 16's.

Not sure about that, you can’t really compare a 98.5 to a 4th Gen. The 4 door 2nd Gen body with the 12V was just a rare truck.

Until the CP3 was reintroduced I would have agreed, but now that we are back to a CP3 there isn’t anything to make an older 4th Gen the golden child.

There wasn’t anything negative about my ‘18, but the ‘22’ is better.

That being said, Ram really seems to be stripping features and upping the price on the 23’s. See what happens for ‘24.
