I'm almost the same experience as Terry... my DPF gauge never shows anything and I tow about 60% of the time... I'm going to check the pipe for soot though when I pull it out before hooking up the 5er Monday. currently 28k on the clock and will be 3y old in Dec.

Sorta like the famous Covid swabb. I couldn’t help it I don’t know if mine is that clean . Why does my truck not show dpf on the dash at 18 k . So is a Cummins fleetguard not a factory air filter and will void my warranty

FYI, A Fleetguard air filter will not Void your warranty, you just need to make sure you use the correct air filter, I have found out the 2007.5 to 2018 air filters are different then the 2019 to 2023 air filters... If you don't want to take time to shop around Genos Garage ( not on Amazon as most places will sell you the wrong air filter) has a decent price on air filters...

Ok why does having /hauling my camper give me no dpf reading on the dash. I’m trying to understand that.
It is performing a "passive" regeneration when working the engine. The exhaust temperature gets high enough to burn the soot to an ash state. If the soot level reaches a predetermined level, it will cause an "active" regeneration session. Every 24 hours you should experience a programmed "active" regeneration, too.

Check out the three links I included in Post # 84. They have a good explanation on the operations involved.
This one is especially informative. Basics of Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Operation | CTS (ctscorp.com)

Good info, but it’s every 24 hours of engine run time… not 20 hours.

  • Well I called the Ram Cares people...explained everything to the representative and they told me to get it looked at by another dealer, but could not assist in making me an appointment and could not provide me any help at this time..... So I called 3 dealers that are within 50 miles of me;
  • Dealer 1 said Dec. 6th
  • Dealer 2 said Jan 3rd
  • Dealer 3 is Aug 17th, we have a winner!!! I'll go into it with positive vibes and hope for the best.

On step forward...
Tell dealer #3 right away that RAM cares sent you to him, and the whole story including the black tail pipe swap. Don't hold back any information that might give him insight. You have a warranty and they have to fix it right now and not postpone it until the warranty is up.

I plan to bring all the documentation and pictures with me when I drop it off, I feel explaining in person is easier than over the phone because I can point to it and say this is what I found.

On the warranty thing, I bought it 9/28/20 so they have me as a thorn in their side until 9/28/25 :)

For my Truck it's constantly doing Regens, but no codes or lights. My oil level is above the "safe", did it make it, did it come that way we will never know.

I had a pop up from the Ram App on my phone and said "new monthly report ready". I don't use the app or connected services but it has it.

When I finally reset my password and the sort, the report was all Green OK.

But I noticed there were some recalls, I knew about the grid heaters and the tail gate one, but there was a Y43 Emissions recall from Dec.

I have to crawl under the truck, but some 2021 and 2022 shipped sort a DPF sensor and it appears the programming is a bit different.

My theory is I'm missing the sensor and the sort, and the base programming Regen is set for 40% DPF loading when unloaded. If you can keep it below this magic number it's much different.

I will have to schedule that and see what comes of it.

I also theorize that there was a mileage deal with this 40% programming. Possibly 8500 miles, it appeared and I have read the 6k break in period is a milestone for the engines. This is entirely speculation and a WAG. But my Regens in the beginning were 24hr timed events all the time, and now it's really different with no real cause or driving style. Something changed like a light switch in the truck.

So maybe check you recall status and see if Y43 applies. You can climb under and see the sensor or lack of.

The Y43 did publish in December but it was only for C&C at that time, it now includes pickups as well.

Mine is getting done this friday.

Probably why I never noticed it. I honestly don't check and did not recall that one.

The pics are CC for sure.

It will probably "fix" my issues.

Kinda sucks they know this 40% deal was programmed out in these trucks and no one can relay that info internally to them and it runs everyone in circles.

The soot deal and oil levels for the OP is a different concern. But the 40% deal I thought he has a similar unloaded situation that I'm seeing.

Would be unfortunate to find out there was an entire part know to be shipped short and programmed to do this deal...

Loaded keep it below 40% it does the 24hr, unloaded it runs almost every few hours, but it seems like that's what they programmed it to be.

I could have hooked up a trailer and just kept it below 40%, I'm kind of glad I did not and just kept track of what it was doing.

As soon as you unhook that trailer and drive around unloaded it would just go back to this pre-programmed deal.

I'm tracking 16% regen time over my last 769 miles.

I’m getting confused now. As long as I’m hauling 3k in my truck I get no dpf reading . Never got one in the winter last 8-9 months empty .Now Y 43 what’s that all about. What’s going on here?

Correct, keep it loaded and your good to go.

The difference is my truck is unloaded zero payload and yours is loaded 3k payload.

The Y43 Recall is a "supply chain" shortage of a DPF sensor set up that is used by the engine in this % DPF calculation and help the engine control systems know where the system levels are so it can more intelligently perform Regens.

Without this extra hardware they have preprogrammed the system to perform at some base levels that for some of us all of a sudden the Regens are all the time.

I dropped it at the new dealer today for the appointment tomorrow. My impressions so far, night and day difference in how they treat the customer.

Everyone I walked past was happy and said hello. The service advisor spent about 25 minutes with me going over all of the paperwork I brought in, and seemed genuinely concerned about the way the other place handled this.

As long as the tech is knowledgeable and interested in actually diagnosing what’s going on, I’m feeling hopeful.
