Torque Test on 2022 2500 Aluminum Driveshaft

Must be the LongHorn having more room???

How tall are you head scrapers???

Longhorn is one I test drove in 2019 (was a ‘18). It’s the same across all trim levels, just antiquated design IMO.

I am 6’4” with a longer than average torso for my height, but my VW Jetta with a sunroof had substantially more headroom.

6'1 but with a hat on I cannot look up or around without brushing it with my head sometimes... very little clearance compared to our 12' that does not have one. I also like to be comfortable so I keep my seat high which does not help Im sure,... As far a heat, I pulled my sunglasses out of the cubby and could not put them on the other day, but it is alot of heat gain through that window, I keep the shade drawn 100% of the time.

OK I understand! I am just under 6' 2" with longer legs than average so this all makes sense. I was kidding about the LongHorn having more head room. I wear regular ball type caps without brushing.

Truck is working out good, right around 2900 miles.

First DEF fill up today was right at the 1/4 mark where the red line starts, took little almost exactly 4.018 GAL. $3.50 a gallon at the local nice truck stop.

I had never filled up at the fuel island before this is a pretty active station, but was not busy.

Overall back in 2018 I had a great Commercial Dealer Sales Person, he has since passed from Bladder Cancer, but he mentioned to me before that you really dont want to have too much truck, and I can honestly say I finally figured out what he was talking about, this is way too much truck!

The longest trip was about 5 hr total, and its great to be able to just get up and GO!, but really most of the time is spent being behind or in the mix of really slow traffic, just what it is around here.

Regens are doing well, all time based so far and never above 25% inbetween them on the gauge, I think Im doing well there not lugging the things to death.

I get decent highway trips in and keep it cleaned out.

I drove my 2018 6.4 Gasser the other day and what a completely different truck, this 3500 with Air Suspension and even being empty really rides nice.

Zero buyers remorse, dont get me wrong its a wonderful rig all around, lots of room for the kids and the stuff, maybe a 68RFE would have been better suited?

The 6.4 was a little underzised for my trailers and loads, and it just screamed on the small hills of RT80 in PA.

But I'm also not hauling something 18k and larger, so hard to say.

Here are the Totals so far. Really no towing yet to speak of, moving trailers around and the sort and some really smaller trips not considered "towing" numbers.

FUEL
15.894 MPG
2881 MILES
181.26 GALLONS
$937.70 TOTAL COST

DEF (UNLOADED)
717.023 MPG
2881 MILES
4.018 GALLONS
$14.06 TOTAL COST

Still no way I would enjoy the cost or ride of Tow Haul and Full EB, I mostly run a little TH and 99% AUTO EB.

Found 2 really nice local Fuel Stops, that one with the DEF at the pump and another smaller one that moves decent numbers of Fuel. Both really nice and new tanks in the last 3 years so they are kept up nice.

I was worried about the DEF, but really a non-issue, it was so easy to fill up and done, I can't see using the boxes if I have it so close and easy to fill at the pump, thanks to all the posts from others on that subject.

Here are a few shots,

Moved yet another Willys 230 OHC Straight 6, they are about 600lb as shown, this is my 8th!

You still need to update your sig :p

They are pretty sweet, aren’t they.

Your empty DEF consumption pretty much matches mine, I got 714 mpg my last tank.

Yeah they don't show on the phone forgot about those. All set.

I put air in the RR on the '96 just yesterday, so still sitting on that.

Pretty good on that DEF number then!

Dealer called and wanted to know if I could do a quick video on the Mega Cab, was a buyer looking at one and they don't have any on the lot right now.

I would say, I did not research too much on these, and I figured the seat would move back l, but it does not, it has a lot of room for sure more then my 2018 CC, is it worth it? Probably not.

The Limited does have a seat that moves back not sure if it gains any room on the actual floor where the frame and the sort mount.

@Timd32, Other than the room with seat folded forward and down, sure no real advantage in the trim level you got! I've got plenty of room with my crew cab. Since I did the hack to all the rear seat back to fold forward, that gives me the room for a out of sight storage area for what I need!

My 18 is crammed with tool bags and stuff for sure it's very hard to work out of for a daily work truck and forget passengers.

The Dealer had no clue how these seats worked when I asked the questions and I could have looked harder, I was not going up in Trim level.

Here are my personal Pros and Cons

Personal Pros
1. It's a cool  configuration, Mega Cab does have that marketting appeal, and on Trade in will command so many more dollars over those tiny Crew Cabs! Honestly these Dealers have no clue what they are selling. So I don't think I'll take a hit because of it. If that makes sense.

2. Behind the seat storage, my current work '18 2500 CC truck is very hard to physically have any passengers just due to my personal set up of tools, bags, jackets, hard hats. Being able to store a few tool bags behind the seats is a really nice feature. I've had mice in my truck 2 times, and having all the crap piled in the seats was a giant maze for them to live in. I'm in a rural area so not having mice, good luck, I've stepped up my game with bait traps this year.

Personal Cons
1. No under seat storage, it's now smaller behind the seat, I have a few tools like levels, larger rulers, folding T square under my Tradesman seat now.

2. Maybe this is a Diesel thing, my gasser has smaller tool boxes in the floor. No smaller lunch boxes / "cooler", tool boxes in the floor in front of the seat. Again I just assumed they all came with those deals. They are nice for atleast some of the medium tie down straps. It could be where the DEF tank and the sort it, only so much room, guess I could take a look.

3. The bottom seat is fixed and does not filp up at all, while it folds flat. If you choose to fold it flat anything under the seat has to come out to do so.

4. Little bit of a blind spot (kinda minor but its there) with that extra metal, there is one specific turn by me that it really is a rough look back, super hard to describe. Just have to make sure your looking eariler at times.

5. This specific seat in the Big Horn package I got does not move back to gain leg room.

------------------------
6. Not a personal concern as I don't have anything to worry about, it does reduce the towing capacity. Everyone who looks at these if you don't know that, well not sure you should be towing heavy. Kinda have to realize you can't have it all.

Ideas to maximize this specific configuration

1. Very simple some plastic bins for under seat storage, keep the stuff in some bins, and I fix the mouse issue if ever, and if I need to fold the seats flater to the ground it's seconds to stack and go those things.

2. Keep fixed car seats to one side. I feel the passenger side has more flip down seat, call it a 60/40, 60 on the passenger. So I have the more fixed car seat on the drivers side and the removable one on the passenger side. That changes in a few short years, again my personal list here.

Changes to purchase
Overall I would buy one again, if able to get a different rear seat, I would like to review it, because you know it's going to have some Cons everything does.

The level of engineering and form fit and function of these fold flatter seats is pretty slick, hats off to the engineering and physical builders, it's a really neat seat set up, from the mechanism to the latches and levers, so I don't want to knock the concept here.

Dealers just can't keep up with the options and honestly they don't care too even if the info was available is my opinion, they are not there to help you, become a informed customer.

It was kinda cool to have them ask, hey can you shoot a video of your seats?, I actually offered the truck up for a test ride, but turned out the buyer was from another State. But if I can easily help the next person with a quick in person look, that goes a long way.

Then I can always pitch them that '22 1500 I'm still sitting on! :)

my gasser has smaller tool boxes in the floor. No smaller lunch boxes / "cooler"

Must be a Mega Cab thing, I have the small bins in both my 20 CC LB and the 12 CC SB.

And I checked out a 3500 Mega Limited when I was thinking about trading in and those seats did not offer any real meaningfull difference in leg room from my CC... maybe 1/2 inch more, the only diff is they recline

I did take the '18 2500 CC Tradesman out today had to move something needed the lift gate, there is at least 3" extra inches in the '22 Mega Cab vs my '18, how I have both drivers seats, the '22 has 15" of room and the '18 only 10".

The floor is also drastically better in the '22 vs the '18, I have a 6.4 gasser 66RFE, vs the HO Aisin, but much better transmission tunnel, it's more of a ramp vs the full tunnel on the '18.

@AH64ID

I really should just look for a fuse in transport mode, I think that's all it is and I just need to look. I'm sure it's just that.

But my 8.4 NAV resets the time and date on every trip. I run Android Auto so no worries as it synchs the clock to the phone and who needs your truck to tell you the date.

No effect on engine timers and the sort.

Yes, it is. Different storage bins on each.

Specs show almost 3" of additional legroom on the Megacab. And it sure feels like at least that. Makes it feel a lot more roomy on long trips.

Took the truck from NJ to MI, got to stretch its legs a bit. Was a good run I did not get the final miles and the sort.

First real trip with the truck actually besides local hauling.

Really ran good and strong, really with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 areas it lives life below 2k RPM, control was good, ride was good, roads always suck as we all know.

Super nice to be able to pull any hill around here, I think it would run 100 mph with this set up all day long.

Even with the trailer and a car on, the darn DPF gauge registered after about 10 miles of off highway driving. They really missed the boat on this DPF stuff, but still not worried, when working was at 0 the entire time, and after maybe 50 or so miles it came back to 0.

Load out, small SUV for family.

Only complaint the Tow Haul has to be reset after restart and even EB did not always latch in every time.

Fuel Stops:
This was my first time really fueling on the road, I made 5 fuel stops total and used maybe 1/2 tank DEF was full when I started.

5 stops include 1 to top off the first tank and DEF at my local go-to place, did not need DEF on the road but it was easily available at every pump.

Filling up in PA, stopped at a Sheetz never used a real fuel island deal, and it did not disappoint, put it card and said "Pump Reserved" but would not pump, headed inside 3 people tried to figure it out, eventually the lady said let me go look at the pump.

I showed her how I was doing it, and she agreed it was correct, well here the last person using the DEF handle it was not seated all the way and it thought someone was still using.

That was a 25 minute fuel stop.

Fueled up on the Ohio Tpk on 80 and it was really nice set up, lots of parking, lots of room if needed. So I figured would do that on the way back as well.

So much nicer then fighting for spot with the gasser.

But for any large Gassers out there the Ohio Tpk had 3 unleaded pumps at the diesel island for RV and Trailers, that was really nice looking.

Overall was a great trip and truck really was a joy to drive, no 3500-4000 RPM 6.4L 4.10 screaming on the hills. I really enjoy my gasser it's a great truck, but it's nice to have unlimited power and pull anything ride nicer all around.
