Cummins wants $50 for an air filter local pick up . I changed mine after 10-12 k and lots of dirt roads . It was pretty bad. Also had lots of smaller bugs and fireweed fluff etc. Filters are doing their job I guess. My old 99 has a k&n wash out dry and recoil type. It was always dirty with fine dirt but never bugs and other heavy matter. Makes me wonder
Wouldn't the truck tell that the air filter is due for a change?
It’s NOT pretty, it’s just BAD.Pretty bad
Very different air box intake setups. The 2022 pulls air from the grill, so bugs and such easily make their way into the air box.
Whatever you do, don’t put a K&N in the new truck.
Yes they do; however; the 4.5 gen trucks seem far more particular about air filters and flow in regards to DPF soot loading estimates.
I visually inspect mine every oil change. Is it difficult to access on the 4th Gens?
IN 2009 we drove from San Diego to Oregon up 1 and 101. A CHP followed me for many miles. I was smoking a bit out back with my Smarty set on 30 hp. If I got stopped I was going to tell him it was a faulty injector and I would replace it when I got home. What gives? I got home 1000 miles later and removed the air filter cover and the filter was super dirty. It had 16K on it. As soon as I put in a fresh filter the smoke stopped. I hear owners going 30K and aside from a freeway I don't see how they do it?
