Every now and then the ABS light along with the brake light appear. Not often enough to worry me but often enough to be a nuisance.

Since then I did a lot of work at the front end including changing both hubs all the brakes steering upgrade Carli track bar new universals. Basically everything The only thing I didn't have the money for at the time was the heavy duty steering box so I settled for a box brace for now.

For a while I thought that was it because I didn't see it started happening again recently. Here's what it does.

Sometimes I'll start the truck and you will see these lights come on. Sometimes if I drive over something that rattles the truck the lights come on.

The former doesn't lead me to believe that it's a connector of some kind Because it's not like something would have wiggled something loose while it was parked. The former would make me want to chase a connector because if I go over a bad stretch of road or something and the truck rattles That sounds like a weak connection. I guess one could say that starting the engine causes a bit of vibration that might cause that to happen.
I thought maybe running 35-in tires could cause this problem I thought maybe the speed sensor in the hubs could cause this problem what are some of the likely troubleshooting things that I can try. The fact that it is intermittent has made it a bit more frustrating to track down Thank you.

Couple of possibilities.
When the hub bearings go bad it takes out the sensor in the hub. But since you replaced the hubs it may be the clockspring in the steering wheel. It also effected my steering wheel radio controls.
I had both issues over the years.
I did a video on replacing the clockspring.

No radio controls in my steering wheel just cruise control and the horn.

It could still be worth a try though. I will give it a watch. Thank you.

You need DRB-III or AutoEnginuity to access the ABS module to see the codes.
So much for turning the key 3 times. I have a Smarty. I have never tried to read codes with it but it does influence the ABS. If the fault does not need to be active then I may just take it to someone with a scan tool but I will look into what you mentioned in case it is something I can feasibly get myself.
Thanks.

ABS is like the hidden treasure in our trucks computer. Very hard to access these codes. If the dash lights have been on and nobody deleted them they will be stored.
If we have to codes we can work on the solution.
Every other way around you just start throwing parts at it. Hit or miss.

Friend of mine hooked a unit up.. not sure what it was but it came back and said no mechanical connection to the airbag. He said that's the clockspring. I replaced the clockspring and it fixed it and the steering wheel radio controls.

My new 05 Ram sounds a ding and flashes the ABS/brake light whenever I make a left turn. Sometimes the lights stay on for a little while and go off.

My 03 Ram did this several years ago and I did something to make it stop, but I can't remember what it was. Logic tells me that, since is happens while making a left turn, that it may be a front wheel bearing sensor. I don't know at this point. It's just annoying.

I have a wifi sensor that plugs in and connects to an app I have called OBD Fusion. I'm not sure if it will read ABS codes.

My brother-in-law's '03 had similar symptoms on the right front wheel. The cause was the sensor wire outer jacket had rubbed through and exposed the copper wire. I don't recall the exact location, but it was in a place where one wouldn't think it would happen.

Got it. The Smarty is supposed to read codes. I wonder if it can help or, if it will not, is there an affordable option for the 3rd gen I will probably need anyway. i have rarely enjoyed the result when a mechanic I hire does work to my truck.

Could be. A diagnose is starting to sound like the way to go.

Worth a look. If the Smarty wont I would like an option just for general stuff

Just had my hubs replaced but for all I know the truck side wiring could have a problem that God forbid they would actually trouble themselves to inspect. I do not mean to sound jaded but, I have had a time finding car/truck mechanic that actually looks a half inch away from what they are doing.

I could tell you some stories man. My issue is I turn wrenches dark to dark 5-6 days a week and have other stuff going on.

At this point I'm putting my money on the clockspring.
Yeah seems like you could be right.

You guys mentioned a few things regarding being able to read codes legitimately. Is there anything that somebody who doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money can do to read these codes I think somebody mentioned a couple of things there I still haven't had a chance to try the smarty out I guess this is kind of an aside.

If you have a Smarty it reads and clears codes.
