Yep I was there Aug 81-Julish 82. I was active Air Force then in the Fire Department. Worked 24 on 24 off 6 shifts and then had a 3 day break. I wouldn't give up that year remote tour for nothing. We worked hard and played even harder. That is where I learned to drink Scotch and water, no hang over. NCO Club, the Rocker and Midnight chow. Normally in that order. I still stay in contact with my roommate he is retired also, living in Tulsa. If you haven't done it yet read the book The Thousand Mile War. I never left the Island while stationed there I took terminal leave at the last of the deployment. Jointed the Air Guard 3 months later for 33 years Fire Dept. Had 40yrs to the day Military..
