Did a search and didn't find this code discussed, although there was a thread close to it, but it got de-railed so thought I'd throw this out. 2023 2500, 7450 miles. CEL came on when I started the truck this morning. Pulled the code, P040B, which is 'exhaust gas recirculation temperature sensor 1 circuit performance'. Plan to schedule with the dealer, but just wondered if anyone has experienced this and what the remedy/outcome was? Thanks

Yep.. even new trucks are not absolved of component parts failures.. I had an under boost code popping up intermittently around the same mileage, turned out to be a faulty EGR valve,.. 2 hrs they swapped it out and its been fine ever since. Now 35k on the clock.

The most frustrating part was I had to take it back to the dealer(s) 3 times until it finally failed before they could diagnose/fix it... They kept re-setting the code and said drive it till it wont... Not super reassuring when you are all the way across country towing you 5er. The last time I took it in it had several more codes so they said yep.. EGR valve.

Just an update. Got it to the dealer this morning. Needs a new sensor. Bigger question now is, where and how soon can they find one? Service Mgr. is looking for one in stock somewhere, but if nothing close, said it might take 19 days. I'm not overly concerned because they said they'd give me a loaner vehicle if truck has to sit for a while. I'll keep you posted!

Just thought I'd update. Dealer replaced the EGR temp. sensor yesterday and all is good. As a side note, I learned something-remote start will not work if there is a MIL/CEL. Truck would start and run for about a minute and then shut off. Don't know if this applies to all MIL's or just on the temp. sensor. Thanks for all the help and insight. I'm keeping the part numbers in case this happens once the truck is out of warranty.

All MIL’s will cancel remote start.

All of the following conditions must be met before the engine will remote start:

 Gear selector in PARK

 Doors closed

 Hood closed

 Hazard switch off

 Brake switch inactive (brake pedal not pressed)

 Battery at an acceptable charge level

 PANIC button not pushed

 Fuel meets minimum requirement

 Water In Fuel Indicator Light is not illuminated

 Wait To Start Indicator Light is not illuminated

 Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is not illuminated

Good day, I have the P040B code myself. By chance you know which sensor they replaced, apparently there are several? My first thought was the one next to the EGR value but No help on YouTube University either..

My truck is a 2019 Gen 5 if it helps. Thank you!

Any idea which sensor was replaced? I am having this same issue.. Is it the one by the EGR value on top on the crossover tube or somewhere on the exhaust. Thank you

Sorry, I don't know which one was replaced. I'll see if I can find the work order with a part number. My guess would be the one BigPapa referenced above.

fellas, one thing you can infer when looking for a temp sensor is it is almost always going to be a two wire sensor..
pressure sensors are generally 3 wire.
doesn't matter very much what brand or system... 2 wire sensors are almost always temperature sendors..

so you look for the EGR Hot pipe ( between EGR cooler itself and intake manifold) and identify any sensor in the EGR Hot pipe and go from there.. if it has 2 wires that is most likely the EGR temp sensor..

Microsoft makes it clear when you transition from one version of Windows to the next, usually using number designations (NT and XP were among the exceptions); used to be because they made you pay more money. On the other hand, Apple switches from one version of OSX to the next with new goofy names, like Snow Leopard or Yosemite, but they don't charge you extra money.

Anyway,...who gets to Officially designate a change as a "new" generation for Ram trucks? How does that happen? I believe I have seen other Ram forums where their generation numbering does not match the numbering that I see here on TDR.

Just something I have always wondered about...
