The 3rd gen will have longer crank times than a 2nd gen. I have read that the computer needs to find #1 cylinder to time all the fuel system injections.
I have an '03 I bought new with no modifications to the engine. I have straight through muffler, gauges and removed vanes in the intake tube. I have 75K miles racked up. I was having these symptoms. Long cranking with very rough starts after sitting for 10 hours or more. Dead spot in accelerator...
Lift pump weak.
Dealer did flow test on mine. The flow was 330 ml with old pump. They switched my truck to the in tank pump. The flow increased to 560 ml. New pump covered under engine warranty. I have 75,000 miles on a 2003.
Critters
Mine looks the same. I did not use it early last winter about the time of our first cold weather. I checked my air filter box for a new filter. The box was full of grass and leaves. They made a nest.
I also have an '03. My visor seems to have lost the "spring" to keep it up against the headliner. It seemed to happen all at once. Until it falls down further I will not fix it.
Question for JVolkman
My truck has what I call a hicup while idling. It will idle fine for a while then just about die then come back to life. Is this anything like the looping you describe of your truck? The dealer says no codes and they cannot repeat problem. They had it for an entire day...
The LT285/70R17 Goodyear MT/R are 'D' rated at 3195 lbs. I ran 49K plus on my first set. I pull goosenecks and commute with truck. I tried to rotate regularly. I was pleased.
just under 50K on set of GY MT/R tires
I just had my second set mounted on my '03 3500 last Friday. I ran just under 50K miles on the first set. I use the truck to commute and tow gooseneck trailers around the farm. I run the LT285/70R17. They are load range D, 3195 lb @ 65 psi.
bad u-joint
I have 50k miles on my '03 single wheel 1 ton. I had to replace all seven u-joints between 35k and 48k. First to go was rear joint on rear driveshaft. All kinds of vibrations. Worst vibrations came from front joint on front drive shaft. Rear view mirror would shake at 65mph and up...
The bulb did not blow. It would lose contact and Lamp out indicator came on and bling bling would sound. I would drive around and it would start working again. If you hit a bump in the road it would start all all over again. I was past warranty coverage so I fiddled with it myself. Good luck.
Bling bling and lamp out
I had the same problem on the left rear light. First it was the brake bulb. I replaced it and no more bling bling. A while later the turn signal quit, then the brake light quit again. The bulb was fine. Apparently, contact is lost. I could see on the turn bulb that it...
Another u-joint replaced.
Replaced number 5 out of 7 on the truck. First one replaced at 35,000 miles. I told the dealer to take front drive shaft out and drive it. 65 mph vibration went away with shaft out. Dealer replaced front drive shaft u-joint at about 48,000 miles. Drives like it did...
U-joint replacement
I lost the bottom rear u-joint at 35,000 miles. Dealer replaced it under warranty. I just replaced the upper rear drive shaft u-joint at 47,000 miles. It was dry and hard to remove. Also, I found both front u-joints at the front wheels were loose. Dealer replaced under...
I USE MT/R
I have LT275/70R17 (LR D) with approx. 26,500 miles, about half tread left. I run about 27,000 miles per year, mostly commuting to work. I use the truck to pull gooseneck livestock and flatbed trailers. The traction is excellent. I rotate 6-8000 miles.
