It may not be this way everywhere and probably not popular to say, but in the sixteen years I have been dealing with the California DMV I would evaluate the service I have gotten from the Placerville office as courteous, efficient, and friendly.
When I went in to register my new truck was I a little grumpy because I had to give up 7. 25% of the purchase price? You bet.

It would be interesting to compare the ninth digit in our CA VINs. Frankly, I would not hesitate to consider the valve cover thing. All 04. 5s are identical.

I would be interested in hearing from someone who DID order a CA truck from a border state... when you went to the DMV, did they write down the information on the sticker, or just look at it to verify that it was indeed there?

I had a strange thought after reading all of this, I wonder if the state of CA. thinks that if there are only vehicles that conform to their emmissions standards running in that state that the supposed pollution from neighboring states can't filter over, I have never understood that place out there and thank God and all above i don't live there.
I figure if my truck and personal belongings arent welcome then IM not either.

50 state and cal engines are the same emissions but the Cal models have a additional light and sensors that lights if the parameters that promote good emissions are exceeded.

... a reasonable person would think that a simple emissions test of an out of state vehicle should be sufficient.
