I'm putting this out in case anyone might be interested. Our beloved truck was hit and totaled over the July 4th weekend. There were no serious injuries, thankfully.

I'm waiting to hear back from the insurance company about the values that they are going to assign, but thought it might be worth posting about it here in case anyone wants it for parts. The hit was on the driver's side, and the rear axle was driven rearward hard enough to curl the leaf springs and break the driveshaft. The engine was idling happily when we came to a rest backward in the ditch.

The truck has 90,000 miles on it. It has the Thunder Road package. I have changed the oil every 5,000 miles using a Cummins or Fleetguard filter. It is pretty much stock. Six speed manual gearbox. I changed the fluid in it at 60,000 miles. We tow a fairly light sixteen foot enclosed cargo trailer, probably between 3,000 and 4,000 pounds gross. The miles are mostly highway with the trailer, but we also used it to run around town. I have owned it since new, although we just bought it in May of 2008 (found it sitting on a dealer lot in suburban DC where no one wanted to even test drive a stick-shift long box crew cab truck).

To give you an idea of how gently it has been driven, all of the brake pads are original, and have about 50% life remaining. I have averaged just shy of 18mpg since day one including all of the towing.

Let me know if you might have interest in the truck. I don't know yet how much the insurance company is going to want for the salvage, so I can't set an asking price yet.

Make an offer or ask any questions you might have. I hope to have something from the insurance company soon.

The truck is currently sitting at the body shop in Richmond, VA.

Wow!

Sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved truck.

Hopefully something good will come out of this in the end... like an even better truck that you'll come to love.

Thanks, John! We are looking for something really close to what we already had, and so far it is like looking for a needle in a haystack! Not much on the TDR classified page right now. We need four doors and a diesel. I want a clutch pedal and my wife wants white. 4WD would be nice, and since we do a lot of highway travel with relatively light loads I would like to find one with the 3. 73 rear (or 3. 42!).

Still working on getting a value on the truck from the insurance company. Highly frustrated by the whole process. Everything I have looked at is $25k or more and they have only come up with $22k so far.

The tailgate was not damaged in the crash, but did have some minor blemishes. The rubber gasket from the back glass on the shell has worn down the paint, there are a couple of scratches and maybe a minor ding on the outside of the gate. I spilled a little bit of paint on the plastic on the inside of the gate. My truck is white, if that matters. I don't know yet if I will try to buy the salvage, or what they will want for it. Without knowing that, and without having someone interested in the engine or other big parts, I don't know that I want to get involved in trying to part it out.

Thanks for your interest!

My truck is also white and since mine came off and a fully loaded dump truck turned it into a frisbee I have been casually looking for a replacement.

Please keep me in mind if you do part it out, my Father in law lives one exit north of Kings Dominion. I am there at least one weekend a month.

Sorry I dropped off the forum. I ended up turning the title over to the insurance company. They made it almost impossible for me to buy the truck back from them and I didn't have the energy to continue fighting with them. Sorry to leave you hanging.
