Ford F350 W/Cummins Shift prob. Manual

Most people on TDR will agree with me in say that you have it all wrong, a Ford is not worth anything with a Powerjoke or a Cummins. If you have to buy a Ford, get a gasser.
funny, seems i remember a poll on this very site several months back showing most people preferd a ferd,if they couldnt get a dodge with a cummins. maybe i'am remembering it wrong. . as for me,my best luck has been with gm and ford trucks, wether gas or diesel. my worst has been with dodges, hope the 05 i bought turns out to be the exception.

That's because a dodge is not worth anything without the cummins in it :-laf

I beg to differ. The 05 F-450 I had was a pile of $%^&*$! It wasn't just the motor, cooling system, intergrated brake controler, radio, seats, and the list goes on! I can't believe all the problems I had with that P. O. S. with only 36,000 miles on it. My 03 Dodge on the other hand with 154,000 miles on it crank position sensor, u-joints. And it never let me stranded or down. Sorry but the furd is a sore subject with me. Hi Kenny, Dawna. I changed my user id. Mike

well, we have always been chevy people, but as far as this F550 goes, its basic construction is very heavy duty... the transfer case is a monster - its gonna be one heck of a truck, ken's even thinking about buying one (super duty) and repowering it, ewwww-i want a 97-98 crew cab chev myself... .

Kenny please wait for the Ram 5500. They are unveilling it on March 1st.

I have had them all. The worst the ford. The chevy was a great truck. It just needed a more powerful motor. The ford was a nightmare. Also, I have lost 4 auto trans. 3 in trucks (two different trucks) 1 in a car. ALL WERE FORDS. I am done throwing $ at fords FOREVER!

Throwing money at an automatic is to be expected, I have yet to see anything with an automatic transmission last 1/2 as long as as a manual. If the truck in this thread was an auto or proposed to retain an auto, I would have no interest in it. Automatics were designed for laziness and handicapped hand controlled vehicles IMHO. (not to forget the mentally handicapped soccer mom's of Kalifornia who can't operate a cel phone, apply makeup, steer, and shift all at once

Anyone who buys an automatic pickup truck and complains about it not holding up needs to rethink their usage. Other than a non towing hunting rig, I can't understand the reasoning for one. (Napa yellow hat parts runners excluded)

Given the cost of a good clutch and the miles you would get out of one, then factor the cost of a good auto trans and the included waranee over the life of the truck it might not be as bad as you think. I have had 2 6 speed trucks with over 400 hp to the wheels. I rode in a DTT equipped 350 hp truck and was convinced auto's are not as bad as I once thought.

Can't wait to see the final product!

where can we find info on this so called 5500

I'd check "urban legends".com

I'm really hoping that a 4500 or 5500 series truck comes out, that will make the older 12 valve pickups drop in value so I can find a few more donor parts for an excursion repower. :-laf The speculation I have read on these new GVW platforms is pointing to March as their first public admission to the prototype, Mercedes is just as tight fisted with their press release info as they are with overall cost of a product line.

My next Daimler product if any will most likely be a 3500 sprinter chassis cab with the Ambulance rated chassis code (hopefully a 4 door model if they ever float them over). Its not for everyone, but the fuel mileage and smaller parking spaces of recent years, I'm considering it seriously lately.

funny you mention the sprinter. my next vehicle is either a sprinter or a Dodge

45 or 5500. I want the freightliner though. Freightliner dealers are open 7 days a week some 24 hours, makes parts readily available

progress report:

Now if you could buy that thing from Ford like that... Id be up at the nearest Ford dealership tomorrow. That is some top notch work there, looks very clean and professional. Im impressed!

Looks good. I can't wait to check it out in person. I will be in Bakersfield when the truck makes it back here, but I will be checking it out as soon as I get beck. I agree. If Ford sold trucks set up like that I would be there too!!!
