Steering Question

I finally got around to the re-assembly of my 85 crew cab rear hubs (it had eaten an inner bearing). On the hub on the side that ate the bearing, I started to knock in the new race, and it just fell right in. My question is, is there any way to repair this, and expecting the answer to be no, where can I get a hub for this thing?

Thanks!

Jim

is there any way to repair this

Yes but the machine work to cut the hub and make and press a sleeve into it would cost more than a used hub.

Best place to look would be a junk yard. As far a I know the hubs are the same between a gasser and a diesel. So finding a hub shouldn't be to hard.

Depending on how loose it is, there are three ways I have used to fix this, you mileage may very. The first is to take a center punch and create a series of large punch craters around the area where the bearing cup is griped by the hub. Next is to use loctite bearing mount sealant (this is the strongest they make) and the third is to use both. I have had success with all, the longest was the combo method.

OK, thanks guys. I'll check around for availability and price, and see if I can get one or have to repair...

I've done the same trick as paychk but with JB weld. It works just keep it centered.

That being said I would still get another one. Being that this is the rear on a truck and since you are working with a dana 70 and just about every 1 ton built for 20 years had one in it, you should be able to find one in a wrecking yard quite easily...
