Thinking about moving my #10 plate "north" to gain some more power. It's just a eye lash forward of stock now.

With my mods-- temps max at about 1375. If I move it all they way forward what power and egts do you guess I will have?

What should I do? What have you done?

Thanks,

Lowell

lpearson,

I've got mine about where Joe mentioned and it gets hot in the upper revs in a hurry. You can feel the increase in power, but you'll hit 1500* if you push it. Even my PDR HX40 isn't supplying enough air up there. Fortunately, one doesn't get to drive in those ranges very often or for very long!

I think Joe is referring to the original position of the stock plate as . 000

That's why it's always a good idea to scribe the plate's stock position onto the housing before you start moving it around or upgrading to another.

My #10 plate is in the stock position, but with DD2's and the 3K GSK I have a tough time hitting 1150* preturbo / 30lb boost empty. Is something wrong with my pyro?

Hmmm

I've got the 10 somewhere forward of stock, I am not sure because the pump wasn't scribed. I just put in a 3000 GSK and 16cm housing and am straight piped with bhaf and some BD +60 horse injectors, I was told they are just a little down from 370's. Well at higher rpm I can burry the 1500 pyro, guess I must be way forward from stock from what you guys are saying. I get about 32 psi max. I think it may have to do with my . 020 over head gasket and timing at about 15. 5. I think I need to go up.

Question for you gentleman does your plate seem to hit hard after 2000 rpm. Mine seems to want to run higher in the rpm band, I am little worried about racing in lower speed range but if I am on the freeway its on. Any comments?

Thanks for the replies

Ask and ye shall receive. Strait from Joe who developed them can get any better advise.

Thanks,

Lowell:)

Not sure about this, but have you checked to make sure the governor lever is hitting the correct spot on the plate?

Stock position? My 215 pump came from the junkyard. :p

I use an ACP (automatic center punch) to put a dot on the plate, then I mark full north, full south, and center with punch marks. THEN I put it FF and drive it.

My current setup is fine for tooling around and racing, but pulling The Hill in locked OD is too hot at decent speeds. I have to get into the pedal harder for more RPM/boost, but then I'm a target for the blue light special.

My other trucks cruise up the hill with no EGT issue, so I'll be backing that plate up a teensy at a time to find a good fueling point to putt-putt up that hill.

For quick reference, I'm running 16 degrees, 3k, 370's, HTB2 62/14, and stacks with that truck--and geared 3. 55 auto with 285's. Plans are for DD clutch/4500 and turbo upgrade, maybe bigger sticks.

Joe told me the same thing. . 035" = 150* and 28 horses. Anyway, look at . 035" as the cap of a spark plug (remember them? :D ). Look at the AFC and approximate how many spark plug gaps you'd have between stock (center position) and full forward. Old time gap of . 035" is what a point style spark plug would be. That . 035" is also equal to the thickness of a match book cover.

Right Joe?

yep, spark plugs were usually . 028-. 035 gap. 1/32" is . 032. There should be about . 242" that the plate can slide back and forth, and stock is usually centered to . 030" forward of centered.

Altitude really makes a difference. I have my #10 back a bit to control heat. I was down at 1000 feet last week and never got much over 1100 degrees even when on it hard. Spool up was almost instant. Up here at 7000 feet it’s another story. I can hit 1000 even on a small hill cruising empty and low end spool is slow.

You may need a little more pre turbo boost fuel

Turning the starwheel towards the front of motor will get more fuel to the turbo sooner. Making it to spool sooner. Small adjustments make big difference

I tq good at 1600rpm and truck comes to life @ 1800rpm
