MY question is ! Does anyone know if it was possible to have ordered after 1998 1/2 a 12V engine in that year or later? I had a person tell me he has a 2001 with a 12 valve that he ordered from the factory. Since the truck wasn't there I have no way of knowing what it was. Could it have been possible for the factory to use up excess 12V engines or something? Maybe there are some sales people out there who might know. Thanks

Gotta be a transplant

That's not possible. After 12/31/07 there were NO 12 valve engines avaialble in a dodge PU. PERIOD!

Maybe if he had it imported from some other country, but not ordered here in the US.

I know, I have one of the last 12 valve trucks.

NOPE!!!. .

12v motors were done being installed in December of 1997. I have seen only a few 12v's which were early Janruary 98 builds and I suspect they were on the line when it was shutdown for the Holidays and changeover.

So if he says he has a factory 01 12v tell him he is not correct... ... ... Andy

Maybe he means he ordered a 12 volt 2001. Stupid answer... I know. It's been one of those days. I love my 97 12 valve. Its got over 220k miles and 100K I put on it with very few problems... . water pump, starter, shocks. Uh... lets not talk about the Death wobble. But at least its fixed after $2000+ worth of front end parts. It probably rides better than new or a new truck for that matter.

Jim (Signal73) on here has an 01 with a 12v

Yeah... .

BUT... .

Just because he has done what Jetpilot lost interest in with the old "Jet Racer" doesn't mean its stock,LOL... ... . Andy

My first Dodge Cummins was a '98. 5 with a build date of Jan 1998; the 24-valve engine in it was built Dec. 23, 1997.

My '98 12V was built late November 1997, so my current '98 is only a few weeks older than my first truck.

My first truck was a 96. What a good truck that was. Really sarted running good after 80k. I bought the 02 to have the 4 doors, leather and all the goodies. I do wish I had a 12v in my 02. For me it would be the best of both worlds.

I wish I had a 24V when it came to performance boxes and injectors, and I prefer how it looks wit the hood up. But I sure don't miss the clatter my '98. 5 and especially my '01 made. On long road trips it got objectionable. The '98 12V is much quieter, above about 55 I can't hear any engine rattle at all.

I placed my order on sept 13 07 IIRC.

I didnt get it until one day after my Bday, dec 19 07.

It took that long because of a RR strike.

I originally tried to special order a 12v on Jan 4, 1998 in SLC, UT. It got canceled and I had a 24v delivered on April 4th, 10 years ago this Friday. I have a early production # 1998. 5, somewhere in the 400 range as I recall.
