I know this has been coverd before. . but I just switched from an HY35 to a PDR HX35/14 and the around town EGTs seem a little high. Has anyone switched back to a 12? If so is the EGTS difference worth the change or should I just look at 4in exhaust?

Thanks

Lynn

I am in the exact situation as you.

I have almost the same mods and I was going to try the 14cm housing vs. the 12cm

I ran a modified PDR w 14cm housing back a few months ago but I never recorded any data.

I want to try the 12vs 14 and provide data to the Members

I tow a 10K 5er, anyone have a 14cm for testing?

Keeping it Under 1200 Degrees...

I have the PDR HX35 with 14cm housing. I also have other BOMBs that make the EGT both higher and lower (see signature). However, when I carry my camper (4000+ lbs. ) I have enough power to go up any grade I’ve come to (in cruise no less) that allows freeway speeds and still keep the EGT under 1200 degrees. (with 40mph headwinds at that!). When I’m on the road, I’m truly a happy camper! :) Love cruising up those grades passing the rice burners (LOL). Forget it with the Comp set on 5/5! :D The 14cm housing is a very good match to the mods I'm running with. I wouldn't want it to spool up any slower; it's pretty quick now.

Yes. I had to plumb the line to feed it from the elbow off of the compressor housing. I don't really know if it's doing anything though.

Hi Bob,

I haven't heard from you since the drags at PR. Which was when I took out another lift pump. lol

Anyhow, how long would you be wanting to test this turbo? I have a Peirs HX35 X 14 on the work bench. And have been considering selling it.

I switched.......

I had a non-waste gated 14cm² on for a while with the PDR HX-35. It ran smoother in the power band than my HY but the EGT's didn't change much. I din't like the extra lag though so I switched to a 12cm² housing. Better spool up and EGT's remained about the same.

As a side note. My truck weighs 11K lbs as a daily driver. Spool up is really noticeable with that weight. With an EZ and DD2's I've never had an EGT problem. 1250 max even on a long hard pull uphill.

Lynn,

I received your message but I've been away and didn't have your phone number for a reply. I'd say give the 14cm more time. Your egts are up around town due to the fact that the HX35 14cm doesn't move as much air at low speeds compared to the HY. Even if you gain 200 or 300 degree egt around town it's not going to hurt your engine or shorten componet life. Above 1200 degrees underload or for a period of time is significient though and the 14cm will help control egt there. It would be interesting to install the 12cm housing as I would expect it to increase spoolup around town and lower egts then do much worse under full load then the 14 housing. Take care and good luck helping J... . install his Mitchell clutch this evening... ... . Larry

You guys need more air flow, Theres an Kwick spool HX40-12cm in the Engine classifieds you may want to consider. More flow with a 12cm housing = lower EGTs and good response from the lower RPM range.
