I just completed some updates on my truck, it's approaching 13 years on the road and has 155K miles. Other than my intermittent tank fuel sender, I've been lucky as everthing still works as it did on day one. I've always been a bit nutty with constant filter and fluid changes, so did I miss any known preventable failures ?

1) New front pads, rear shoes.

2) New rear wheel cylinders

3) Replaced all oem brake lines, brake hoses, system fully bled out.

3) System flush, Thermostat, Water pump, Serp Belt, upper and lower

radiator hoses.

4) Replaced Denso Alternator brushes.

5) Replaced Track Bar.

6) Front Stabilizer End Links.

7) transmission fluid, Filter, Gasket (Done every 25K).

8) New batteries.

Still have to do:

1) Rubber fuel hoses at CTD (Waiting for next fuel filter change out).

2) Replace/Check out some vacuum lines that look crappy.

3) Replace drippy oil pan drain plug gasket on next change out.

Done in the past:

1) Replaced the Starter Contacts and added diode at starter.

2) KDP pinned.

3) Valve lash adjustments

4) transmission band adjustments

5) Fuel Relay replaced

Nice list. Changing the hyd brake lines was smart.
Check your transmission cooling lines where they are strapped to the oil pan. Mine vibrated a hole in them at 165k miles.

Here're several you overlooked. :) :)
  1. Replace suspension bushings.
  2. Inspect tie rod ends; replace if any motion detected.
  3. Inspect steering gear output shaft; install DSS if play detected.
  4. Inspect/lube parking brake cables.
  5. Inspect ujoints; replace as necessary.
  6. Inspect intake heater relays for 'weakness'; replace with aftermarket relays if needed.
  7. Inspect exhaust manifold for shrinkage; adjust/replace as needed.
  8. Lube all shifter joints.
  9. Lube rear-most 'swivel' on p-pump (the one that most often rusts, making the go pedal hard to move).
  10. Inspect/replace spare tire hanger cable.
  11. Power steering flush.
  12. Disconnect/reconnect all body/chassis electrical ground connections. Inspect other electrical connections that are, or are almost, exposed to the elements.
  13. Inspect wiring/connections along steering column.
  14. Inspect headlight switch.
  15. Inspect/replace window felts and door seals.
  16. Inspect wiper transmission bushings; replace as needed.
  17. Inspect trans cooler, condenser, radiator, charge air cooler for wear/corrosion.

1) Replaced the Starter Contacts and added diode at starter.

The diode needs to be the modified later version, potted with epoxy, as otherwise the stem can vibrate off the diode body. If yours is from LarryB, the diode will be upgraded free of charge.

There are several small diameter hoses in the coolant line, other than the top and bottom hoses. I went to Cummins to point them out on the computer screen to make sure I got the correct ones.

Nick.

Thanks for all the tips. I will look into and inspect and replace as needed those listed items. Good info. I did not think of all the items listed!

I do have the older Larry B diode without the potting, how do I get a free replacement assuming I can't find the receit ?
