Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting My second Kimber

Yeah, I don't have a lot, but in pistol powder, a little goes a long ways. I've got some Universal, Titegroup, Clays, and AutoComp powders for my .45. The Autocomp is the best for accuracy, it seems. But I use the Titegroup in my hunting loads with 185 Hornady or Sierra bullets, as a little goes a long ways.... I use 6grs and it's pretty hot. I can get almost 1100fps and it's lethal!! I wouldn't reccomend that load to anyone, as I think that's a little over the top for most max charges, but it works in my Colt and custom Caspian. I back that down to 4.5gr with the lead bullets, as they're 230gr (225-235gr) and they'll foul really bad if I push 'em much over 800fps. Those are pretty lethal, too, but I usually keep them for plinking or backup ammo. They are pretty accurate in the Para's and any of the cheap Philipino made .45s I've played with the last few years.

Bullets have been the hard thing for me to find. I got into a big batch of copper plated ones up at Tulsa April before last, so I'm set now. Primers are low by my standards, but they're coming back around, too. I'm low on powder, too, but still got enough to reload a good bit. I use 6.5grs of the AutoComp with the 230 plated bullets, and it's pretty accurate. I don't shoot competition much, but I like to be accurate, and that load does the trick, running through the Dillon 650. I think the fuller case makes the difference on accuracy. The biggest problem I have now is time to sit down and reload. I'm sure I'll make time when I start running out of ammo!! :-laf

Midway has bullets. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/11...in-jacketed-hollow-point?cm_vc=ProductFinding
unless you are just trying to stay local which admirable. Around here there aint much and some are trying to squeeze extra money out of you. I really like the Oregon Trail leads for plinking, you can push them without leading.

I replaced the 45acp expand/powder drop piece in the Dillon with a 44mag. That way only the mouth of the case is expanded, and you keep all of the neck tension. Got any experience with making Unique loads clean?

Already posted about your XD.

Editorial note though.

I have always felt that ones first hangun should be a good double action revolver.

Utterly reliable and EASY manual of arms. 357 has always been what I recommend as it is versitile (38's and 357). and ubiquitous.

All auto's will jam, it's just a matter of time. The manual of arms for malfunction drills is not difficult but does require training. Training that many are unwilling to get.

If your revolver miss fires, one simply pulls the trigger again.

Become a proficient and safe shooter, then graduate to the more complex, practice your drills and (if properly maintained) you will probably have little issue.

Most handgun instructors will counsel you ad nauseum about the eventuality of needing to use said drills in an adrenaline charged situation. Auto's require a level of proficiency that few take the time to master.

My $.02

Never responded to my own post before.

As previously mentioned, so many are enamoured with the latest and greatest semi auto.

It requires a level of training that few are willing to achieve.

I have in my inventory both revolver and semi auto.

To show you I practice what I preach, I recently purchased a S&W mod 19 3" 357 Mag.

Not a collector to be sure as it has been altered by the previos owner; but a great shooter and Truck gun in my view.

I will be using it for same despite my inventory of semi auto's.

Very dependable, Utterly realiable and very capable of handling a variety of situations.

Can't go wrong with a good double action revolver; until you have mastered the semiauto with appropriate training.
