My 2WD 2001. 5 2500 quad cab diesel becomes very bouncy at around 40 mph. It clears up just above 40 mph. My 2000 never had this problem. Tire pressure is around 50 psi front and back. Is anyone experiencing this problem? Is there a solution?

I've never had that problem but I would like to recommend changing you air pressure if empty. I run 55 psi in front and 42 in back. Those pressures were recommended by Michelin. Weigh your truck loaded the way you drive it normally and contact your tire manufacturer to get the proper psi at that weight. Makes a big difference in ride quality and wear. I have 39,000 miles on my OEM tires and they are still in great shape.

Try different pressures, and if that doesn't do it rotate the tires to see if the problem moves. If not I'd install Roadmasters and good shocks. The factory shocks are junk even when new.

My 98 did exactly the same thing. My 01 doesn't bounce but there is a point at 38-40 where I feel just a little tremble in the drive train and it disappears. On the 98 nothing I did ever cured it including rotating tires and a new set of tires. I always thought it was probably the rear drum balance but the 01. 5 has discs so maybe its the drive shaft.

I'm new here and have been reading the posts. I would first like to say that the people posting here sound like people that know what they are talking about. Also I am impressed by the good language and no cussing going on. I wished this thing had a spell checker on it. LOL

I had the same experience with my trucks bouncing in the rear end with a 25 ft. gooseneck trailer. Checked the tire pressure and they only had 45 psi. Went to 60 psi and stopped all the problems.
