Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2002 VP44 finally dying

Sad to say I have the dead pedal along with a P1693 and P0216. According to the dealer the truck was put in service 10-16-2001, so I figure I am almost 1 year out of warranty (only 118,000 miles). Has anybody ever tried to get one replaced when their warranty was over in time, but not miles?

That's what I was thinking. I used to be a BMW tech in Wilmington. Back then they had an issue with the v8's that required replacement of the long block. We would regularly replace them if the customer was a little over 100k, but I do not recall doing one that was over the 7 years.



After researching further, I have pretty much decided to do it myself (still have my tools from back then). I will most likely replace the pump, install an FASS or AirDog, and upgrade injectors while things are apart. Now to decide on where to get the pump from

He's definitely on my short list, as is thoroughbreddiesel, and possibly mwfi. Those seem to be the most popular around here from what I can see.

If you are looking into doing it yourself, search the threads here and in the 911 section. Several members have done detailed writeups on some of these part R&Rs.

You need to properly diagnose the problem first.

Ordered a bluechip, should be here within the week. Also ordered a set of F1 mach 1. 6's (might as well while i'm in there). Looks like a busy time for the next couple of weeks. Got my exhaust, Airdog2, and gauges today. Next on the list is probably a prxb max flow. Man I just love spending till it hurts

If you have any problems with install call Chip Fisher & he will help you out with install over phone. Also go to his web site & go to Instructions/Installs then go to VP 44 Install Directions. They are great instructions, print them out & study them before you start & that will help you familiarize the removal & installation. The only thing I worry about is dropping the key but if you have key top dead center & are careful you shouldn't have any trouble.
