Congrats on the 'new' truck! With only 96k on it it really is almost new. Get that KDP taken care of ASAP and have fun with your all mechanical fuel system. I went from a 3rd gen to a 12V too and I love the 12V.

To those of you who went from a 2nd or 3rd gen to the 12V, other than not driving a newer rig, do you have any regrets? Do you miss the awesome TQ the 3rd gen had? Do you find the 12V still has enough power?



I sold my 2nd gen with less than 30k miles on it a few months back because the guy who bought my 28' flybridge boat needed something to tow it home with. It has proven regrettable to have sold that truck as I am having a hard time finding one with such low miles on it or as clean. Not to mention that since Rita and Katrina blasted through this part of the country, I feel the price of used diesel trucks went up 10-20%.



I am now considering purchasing a 12V as I have found a few of them that are rather inexpensive and would therefore perhaps be able to BOMB it over time. Either that or leasing the new Megacab. Quite a difference in trucks, I know, but was just wondering whether the 12V would be good VFM (value for money) or should I burden myself with the larger monthly payments but get newer technology in return?



Any opinions are welcome.

I am on my 4th cummins and feel pretty qualified to answer that question.

If you are mechanically inclined and enjoy tinkering, You can't go wrong with a 12V as you will be in a position to bomb it, (or not), the way you want for the reasons you want. You can make good power for relatively little money and have a support system from the TDR that is "PRICELESS". You can upgrade the interior etc. I do miss the smoothness and tightness of the new trucks and REALLY miss the $650 monthly payment. At the end of the day, you can find a used truck for good money right here on the TDR and own it. I wish I had bought a truck from a fellow member. Instead I bought online from a guy who claimed that it was his baby... ... I should have called child protective services on him... ... . Good luck

Well, thanks to Larry B and some late night wrenching, I got my starter contacts and plunger changed out last night. It was really on its last leg. The plunger was heavily corroded and the one contact looked like a knife blade, sheesh!



It starts like a new one now! I'll have to post some pics in my gallery.

I had an 03 for two years, and now have a 1996 (and a 99 honda accord daily driver). I loved the 03 for trips and power/comfort, but it's great having a zippy daily driver and a monster to go goof-off in.



like Derek said, if you enjoy wrenching, a 12v is just for you.



BTW, my 03 couldn't TOUCH the torque of my 96.
