Has any one had to test yet? I just renewed registration on my current truck a couple months ago with no drama and no checks of any kind. I am however in the middle of selling it and looking at other trucks. One in particular has DDP 90 injectors, BD Special B turbo, 5" turbo back, AFE intake box, CFM plenum, and a built GB transmission. I am nervous about having to test this truck. I would like to hear from some one that has actually done this testing regardless of pass fail.

If they do like the Gassers the seller will be responsible for the smoging of the vehicle. Call DMV To see what the new laws are for Diesels. If the seller is responsible, make arrangements with the seller for the parts you want to keep.

The turbo, CFM, Intake box, shouldn't be a problem The injectors if they require a snap test and check engine light on due to trans upgrade will be a problem. I come up in April I am curious now think I will stop by a smog station and see whats up

I'm lost. Are you saying we can take our truck to Blyth and get it smog? Do you have to have an address in Blyth? From what I understand they will smog diesels this year if the last digit of your plate is even and next year for odd numbers. If this is true both my CTD and my TDI will not be due till next year.

I received my yearly statement for road fees today. NO SMOG for me. Los Angeles County. Not sure about that odd or even on the plate numbers. My plate does not have numbers in it, so I guess I won't ever have to SMOG????
~450 for license fees, weight fees, fire fighter plate/custom plate fee... . but no smog fee or inspection needed, as of my renewal due date, 3/31/10.
I hope this can help clear up some of the mud that iscoming down. No major mods yet ;-).

Well I live in So Cal so it may be easier for me but on our Rodeo it was to go to a smog only station so instead I just went into AAA and asked to put in a change of address she asked if I had more then 1 and I said No just this 1 Paid the fee's and she handed me the tag's. No on my last truck it started out gas and then I converted it over to diesel but I reg it to a Needles address and you just have to remember when your tag's are due cause they will send it to reg address I Never had any problem's with reg on the truck and had it for over 15 yr's Hope that help's if you need more info PM me

It goes every two years on last number of VIN being Even or Odd. My test will be next year because I'm Odd... ... ... ... My VIN is

I believe your '85 Chevy only had to make '85 emissions with the transplant so your good to go with the '93 CTD. Regardless,I'd hate to tangle with the DMV. My neighbor here installed a TDI engine in his Samurai, had it inspected at the DMV and no questions! Luck of the draw I guess.

Where is this info coming from? I am really curious on this as we will most likely be moving back to Florida next fall. If this truck that I am looking at will not be called for until next year I would be good to go.

Smog check on Diesel's in Cal will only apply to those who's tags are due April 1st or later. Even VIN's will go this year and odd VIN's next year. Saddle Up!

Curious if it's going to be a once every 4 years like gassers, I have not read anywhere on how frequently you'll have to be inspected. Are they going to have DMV/CARB inspection places or do we only have to find an auto shop that does smog checks? We're skrewed in Kalifornia.

Every two years.

Diesel's will not have the same smog exemptions that gasser's do for a new vehicle. We have to smog a new vehicle from day one.
