I have owned 2 3500 duallys ho aisin factory air ride with the 2 and 1/2 leaf rear suspension. I now have a 2021 2500cc sb ; no HO avalable on 2500s but have factory air ride with 5 link susp, never heard of HD 5 link susp,
I have owned 2 3500 duallys with HO Aisin with factory rear air and 2 1/2 leaf suspension. I now own 2021 2500 CC SB 4x4 reg output (only available in 2500). Factory air ride 5 link suspension. Know nothing about HD 5 link suspension. Many various loads with bumper and 5th wheel. Never any odd bouncing.
The way the 5 link on the HD trucks is designed it is very prone to axle wrap and some crazy control inputs over rough terrain. Ram didn’t do the 2500 owners any favors designing that suspension, they say it’s a larger version of the 1500 setup but it’s not. Lots of threads on other forums about it. I gather the side sway motion on it makes some people nauseous even on good roads.
Two years ago I said this....25k later I still say it. Coil springs not air ride so I can't comment on that. Not sure where all these forums are or all these no driving truckers are at. My weight is always on the bed floor, so maybe the complainers are hauling overhead campers or other top heavy loads. I haul on good roads and some of the worst off highway trails ever, no complaints.
The only thing that would make me trade it off is another one just like it...with an 8 spd and more power
"The truck drives and rides way better than the '01. There is a really bad stretch on I-40 in Holbrook, ruts and heaves. With my '01, I hug the steering wheel with tunnel vision and hope I can stay in my lane. The new one is like it is on a rail and the suspension just soaks it up."
