Wise move or not? too early to tell. I'm guessing FCA went for the superb fuel economy with the VM Motori. The Nissan Cummins doesn't even come close.
Ya, that's right, but spending more in repairs overshadows that fact. I would have bought the Nissan Cummins instead of the Tacoma, if it wasn't for the fact they almost cost as much as Ram 2500 CTD.*

Yeah that's true if the repairs are extensive. I know of several ecodiesels with close to 200,000 miles and a few over 200,000 that have been trouble free.
 
I'll admit that I am biased about the ED, and that not all are experiencing issues. But then again there were/are Ford 6.ohno fans still around because not all had issues. Buyer beware on the ED, make sure you do a thorough search on used vehicles. And expect an excellerated loss of value on the vehicle as time goes on.

I agree 100%, but, at this time, she won't even consider another Jeep.
 
How would you rate your experience with them? Looking at trucks and they are the closest dealer (45 miles) to me with any kind of CTD selection.

I have never bought anything from them so I can not speak for sales. I worked there in high school as a lube tech, so I know a lot of people up there. They seem to be accommodating with this Jeep situation, but I was questioning some of their workmanship after the engine swap. There's is only one tech left from when I worked there. On this go around, I requested that he is the only tech working on it, or at least overseeing what's going on with it. I even stopped in a couple random times to make sure it was at least in his bay. So far, he's been the only one working on it. He told me the transmission is going in today, and he's going to have a younger guy helping him, but he will be overseeing everything. They have been good to work with and making sure everything is taken care of.
 
Got the Jeep back yesterday. Talked the wife into driving it for at least 3 months and see if any more issues arise. When we picked it up, the dealer had a 2 year/4 free oil change deal waiting for us. Time will tell.
 
2016 Ram 1500 Eco Diesel needs to new engine after 27000k. Engine died in Alberta with no cell service in the evening. FCA and Roadside and my platinum warranty are proving to be useless. My truck has been at a shop 9 hours away from where I live. FCA is saying they wont ship back but I should go and get. I feel totally screwed. I have shelled out over $2k in expenses for trip interruption.
 
The rotating mass failures continue, I had a another member call Me Yesterday in Ontario 2015 With 127.000K and Ram Says No to replacement under warranty, The sooner the DOJ finish with FCA criminal Charges I hope they Have New engine ready that has been rumored... Its a Hero or Zero engine (3.0) , Way to many QC issue to keep pass warranty and even at that the diminish valve is increasing everyday. Kinda said for a engine that had such High hopes to change the world for clean diesel and economy. I have a hero Motor thank goodness, But I find FCAs handling of the ED fiasco over the line and needs to be step up or be Civil / Criminally punish. FCA 1500 Ram Fit and finish plus the ride is un match in the industry, the 3.0 needs to go.
 
wow, i just read this thread.to bad this 3.0 has so many problems.my 2006 5.9 is going strong. the first ones up the beach take it hard!
 
So... I have to ask... This is a RAM Cummiins site right? Then Chrysler brought in the VM eco thing so we added the 1500 and that engine. Nissan gets the Cummins that RAM threw away and we don't talk about that engine. Maybe we should? Anyway my question How many Cummins engines have failed over the years? RAM really screwed the pooch dumping that Cummins engine that Nissan now has. Repuation is everything. This black eye the VM eco now has is going to be very hard to get swept under the rug......

It seems all the new diesel engines are having teething problems. EGR, DEF, higher temps have all contributed to these problems. Car and Driver had a boatload of problems with their Nissan with the Cummins v8, and only got 15mpg in actual testing...when it ran. No thanks.

WHAT WENT WRONG: The Titan was operating properly at 26,100 miles when we picked it up from a routine service visit, called for via the truck’s onboard oil-life monitor. Consisting of a tire rotation, inspection, and oil change—plus new filters for the engine oil, fuel, and air entering both the engine and the cabin—it set us back $503. Since then, however, a serious malady has befallen our XD, and we’re still in the midst of investigating what caused it. The problem started at about 30,000 miles with a check-engine light (CEL) and a reduced-power notification early in a cross-country trek from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to California and back. A Nissan dealer in Iowa investigated, determined nothing serious was amiss, and then cleared the fault code (P2560, low coolant) and topped off the engine coolant, some of which had curiously vanished on our drive, before giving us the okay to carry on. That fixed the symptom, but this was just the beginning of a long, cantankerous journey to uncover the cause. That same warning illuminated two more times on the return trip with a loaded trailer in tow—one that carried this multicolored Mitsubishi and weighed well under the truck’s six-ton towing capacity. But given the all-clear from the Iowa dealer and experiencing no additional drivability issues with the truck, each time the warning popped up we continued on after performing the same code-clearing and add-coolant routine. (In our haste to complete our cross-country mission, and to avoid having to find another Nissan dealer every time the alert returned, we purchased a code-reading tool from an auto-parts store, which plugged into the truck’s OBD II port and allowed us to clear the faults as the service technicians in Iowa had. In hindsight, we shouldn’t have followed that dealer’s lead by continuing to drive while our Cummins was consuming coolant and should’ve instead stopped for a second opinion.)

Unfortunately, our trek ultimately came to a halt in Nebraska with the Titan limping into another Nissan dealership, plumes of white smoke billowing from its tailpipe, the Cummins V-8 diesel down on power, a clatter emanating from under the hood, the CEL again illuminated. More than 20 fault codes and warnings were logged in the Titan’s computer, most of which indicated an issue with the engine’s exhaust-gas-recirculation (EGR) system.
 
That horror story is self inflicted, consuming coolant like he was experiencing is a bonehead decision, to continue on. At what point do wonder why you magically lost coolant?

Nissan dealers, in my experience, are usually less educated and less professional than Dodge/Ram dealers. What kind of tech sees low coolant on a new rig and doesn’t inspect?
 
Possibly, but look at page 54 in TDR issue 95 for another thought.

I really hope FCA is smart enough to put that 2.8l cummins, or some variant of it, into the new jeep. The 3.0l ecodiesel just seems too big and too heavy for that platform.

The teething issues seem to have become less and less common, at least for the 3/4 ton diesels that have been out for a while. The addition of SCR systems has alleviated a lot of the early EGR and DPF issues...still room for improvement though.

The relatively newer 3.0l ecodiesel and 2.8l duramax (really a VM Motori design) have less of a track record with emissions...so their long term reliability is yet to be proven.

There are no DOJ criminal charges on the table for FCA. There might be a civil case, or there could be nothing at all. Despite all the name-calling and allegations being thrown at FCA, there has been no concrete proof that the company deliberately cheated or skirted emissions regulations, at least not yet.

Now, I'm not excusing their interactions with customers in dealing with ecodiesel problems. The 3.0l v6, while it does have potential, did seem to have a lot of issues, not all of them emissions-related, early on. I've heard that their reliability has seen improvement as of late, but I'm still too skeptical to buy one myself.
 
Kpear, they new, Back in Mid 2015 I posted many finding that I found to be ODD when I defeated device(s) on My 3.0, eventually I call out many on this this really PO some at 1500diesel.com.. I started deleting My postings and they Banned Me, All My finding were confirmed Nov 15 when the EPA notify FCA of there findings, it led to the Cease and desist Sales of 2017. My contacts have the 2017 failing in -0 temps form No starts to just going x miles and shutting down.

FY 2017 civil penalties include a $1.45 billion Clean Air Act penalty in the Volkswagen case. EPA is continuing to address mobile source Clean Air Act violations. In May 2017, EPA filed a complaint against FCA US LLC, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V., V.M. Motori S.p.A., and V.M. North America, Inc. alleging violations similar to those in the Volkswagen case, affecting nearly 104,000 light duty diesel vehicles.

EPA is increasing the deterrent effect of EPA’s enforcement program through criminal enforcement actions to address the most egregious cases. EPA may seek sanctions against individual employees of facilities for criminal violations of the CAA. Page 2 Pg . Between 2013 and 2016, Defendants illegally sold or caused the illegal
sale of approximately 103,828 diesel-fueled new motor vehicles, under the Ram
1500 and Jeep Grand Cherokee model names, (“Subject Vehicles”) that do not
comply with the Act. The applications for Certificates of Conformity (“COC”) for
the Subject Vehicles did not disclose at least eight software-based features that
affect the Subject Vehicles’ emission control system. Consequently, each Subject
Vehicle differs from the specifications provided in the COC applications and none
of the Subject Vehicles is certified by the COC that purportedly covered it. In
addition, one or more of these undisclosed software features, alone or in
combination with one or more of the others, bypass, defeat and/or render inoperative
the Subject Vehicles’ emission control system, causing the vehicles to emit
substantially higher levels of NOx during certain normal real world driving
conditions than during federal emission tests.


If found guilty Criminal Charges would follow. Unless the civil case is Settle.
