Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 24v sitting in between use

Hey Guys, I'm in the market for a 99 or 2000 Dodge 2500 or 3500. Unfortunately it will not be a daily driver, and will be sitting for 75% of the time. What can I expect from a 5. 9l Cummins sitting for say a month or 2 when I go to start it. Will I need to do anything to prepare the truck for sitting in between use? I figure you guys will know...

My 99 sits in the garage from Nov to March. No special care taken. Starts right up when its needed. Thanks Steve B

It won't hurt it at all. I have 11,000 miles on my 2001. 5. Get a Battery Tender or other 'smart' charger and plug the batteries in any time the truck has to sit.

I replaced my stock batteries with Optima's about a year ago. The Battery Tender does a nice job of keeping BOTH batteries charged up.

I also run a Bell Additive (Deezol) to kill algae. Seems to work.

My pick-up pretty well only gets out on the weekends, and does fine. In the winter it sets a little more, as much as two weeks, and still no problems when evrything is working right (right now I have a fuel leak and would have to prime to start).



Also, If you leave your truck for days at a time, dont forget slightly open windows, dome light on, or a stuck brake controller switch that might leave the brake lights on... . those things can be problems after several days... .
