Need help, the other day I saw a guy in Anchorage driving a 2nd Gen Crew Cab Dually, and it made me want one. I searched TDR for 2nd Gen Crew cabs and all I come up with is Bayer's and the last posting was 2 years ago. Does anyone have another link and new info? I can't seem to find the one for the guys from Texas that are doing the Mega Cabs.

Thanks

Same thing here. I did alot of searching and came up with Bayers also. I am still searching, hopefully will find one close.

My truck is a Bayer conversion but I have seen alton companies work and they do a better job. The guy who I bought mine from had alton co strech his 3rd gen quad cab a foot so it looks similar to a mega cab. (His is the white one on the alton company website.
The texas company does fiberglass doors vs the metal doors from bayer. In that area bayer is better.
Pic of my truck are in my gallery.

I called Bayer last year before deciding to stretch my std cab to an ext cab. I talked to the owner for a little while and it sounded like they do good work (too much $$ for my truck) I was watching for a crew for a few months and finally saw one on eBay with a reasonable buy it now but I couldn't get the idiot selling it to call me and the first person that saw it bought it.

A guy in town here has a club cab crew cab. It started life as a club cab and they had it stretched to add a full set of doors and seats, the club cab part still sits behind the back doors. Front seat + middle seats + club cab back seats + horse trailer = really long truck and a big family heading off to the rodeo :).

Companies that stretch them are rare. I think that the Texas company that does the Megas stretches the frame and throws the factory long bed on. The real 2nd gen stretches involve major interior work and custom rear doors.

TJarecke is right. The Texas company that used to do these was Custom Conversions and they did fiberglass rear doors which is what I have. I'll disagree that the steel is better... only because I live in the rust belt and I don't worry about my "custom" rear doors rotting out like my fronts.

I think that Bayer does a better interior job. I think his looks really factory. Mine looks like a conversion van gone wrong. I'm working on that now.

I've seen a half dozen of these for sale. That is the only way I could justify owning one as the conversion cost is high. I had to sell my mint '01 with mods for this truck, but I do like the huge interior and I like not having a new truck payment.

Oil Burner how are you liking your truck?

I haven't seen the interiors of the other conversions. Maybe I take mine for granted. There are days that I wish I had fiberglass doors don't get me wrong. The nice thing about my steel doors as even though they look custom you can use stock replacement panels to make repairs if needed. No playing with glass.

There is never a perfect truck but these crews are closer than what dodge gave us from the factory.

I sure couldn't swallow putting that much more into my expensive mega cab to make it a long box. Well to tell the truth, I can't swallow the price of a mega cab period. I guess that is why I drive what I do.

so far so good. I have put some money into it so far but even with the purchase price I'm still under 15k right now. I figure I'm at least 20k ahead of a new mega cab so far.

The front end is now pretty stout but I replaced a bunch of stuff (track bar, bushings, DSS, etc... )

Motor is strong. I put some used stuff in but it runs really good, gets about 17. 8 mpg and I only put about $700 in it.

Interior is still ongoing. I'm have been tearing the headliner out today. I hope to have that done soon.

Other than that, it's a solid, reliable truck.

I see you kept yours?

Jason

Well I still have it... I don't think I am keeping it. My wife wants a car really bad, and I am building a 94 reg cab short box 4x2 to use for drag racing. I guess I can't keep both.
