Changing our thinking to a short box. Anyone tow a 5th wheel with a RVK3600 set in it's back most position? Snoking

Snoking, I'm convinced you'll never buy. You've been looking for years.
Getting very close. If some demanded the 2001.5 it would be icing on the cake? Wife wants a Laramie for dual zone H/C. I want buckets for console, Aisin and we would prefer not to have sunroof. Only 4 or so West of the Mississippi. First choice is Deep Cherry Red Pearl Coat. Second is Granite Crystal. Just trying to beat JHawes! :):) Snoking

I have one with a BWRVK3500 installed with out 5th wheel tow prep. No problems with clearance so far.

SO! I owned a short narrow box 1974 pickup back when I was a young buck. Since then I have had a 1969 Chevy, 1976 Chevy, 1993 Ram, and the 2001.5 Ram all long wide boxes and all std cabs. This will be my first extended or crew cab truck. With the crew cab and long box they are just so darn long as a daily drivers, and while in Arizona for the winter DW drives it by herself or with other gals so that got us looking at short boxes. With the big back seat and fold flat feature Costco runs will not need the bed for storage.

I believe my measurements show that our V-box will still fit behind the hitch, as I think about to be only a few inches are removed axle back. I will have to take the tailgate along to keep the park view camera working or figure out how to move it to the back of the V-box. Our Truck Trunk bed box in the front may be able to be modified to still fit in the front of the hitch. In the attached drawing of a side view, the back bottom corner of the box could be cut away and reversed like the dotted line shows to clear the wheel wells and front hitch feet. This box hangs from the bed rails and has about 3" inches below it to the truck bed so that you can slide a few sheets of 4x8' material under it and close the tail gate on a long box truck.

Here is a couple pictures of the Creative Industries boxes I have had for years. To bad they went out of business, as they are great boxes.

Our two golf bags fit is the V-Box along with golf shoes etc.

The lid of the Truck Trunk slides left or right to gain access to the box.

The bed would be pretty much full of boxes with the hitch exposed in the sea of diamond plate. In the photo here the hitch is an inch of two in front of the rear axle, and if the RVK3600 is set to the rear it might all work out. Ron (Cummuns12V98) said he would come over and help. It is all his fault, as he took Darlene and I to pizza in his new truck and let me drive!!!!!

I have already cut the pin box mounting plate off.

If this does not work out, I will have to just get a tri fold bed cover and sell the boxes with the 2001.5.

We haul the golf cart back and forth to our summer RV lot(up in the spring and back in the fall) with the box in the front of the bed and the rear of the cart on the tail gate, so I would just have to remove the front box and the cart would fit about the same. Might pick up a cheap utility trailer for dump runs and moving the cart anyway.

It's a slippery slope!:-laf

If you go without the fifth wheel prep and use the B & W turnover setup you get more room in your in the pickup bed.

I want the four pucks! SNOKNG.

I do not see that much different in real estate used. If I just wanted a hitch that sat on the bed I would get an Andersen for half the money and be able to set it in the rear position.

Operating the release handle may be and issue with the B&W. I could always get a picture frame and modify my Hijacker feet to fit it, as they do not seem to be industry standard! It's handle slide straight out to the side. And I really like the sliding bar part.

With the TOB setup, you can adjust the companion hitch an additional four inches to the rear of the bed versus the puck Companion hitch.

TOB??? Through Opening in Bed???

With Ron near by, we can measure and try things with his hitch etc!!!

If the stars continue to line up we will parachute into the midwest or Rockies and drive a new truck back to Washington in 2.5 weeks. SNOKING

Turn over ball.....B&W gooseneck hitch......simple bolt in job.

The RVK3600 allows for 4" behind, 2" behind, center or 2" in front! Lot of flexibility, and load is carried directly on frame not the bed floor. SNOKING

Yes....I know....I have a rvk3500:) In your original post you were asking about running the hitch as far back as possible. There is an extra 4 inches available with the gooseneck over the pucks....... If you are interested.....:)

Pretty easy with one of these! also makes it nice for tool box access.

Actually without the hips it should not be too hard to reach.

What model step is that? Is that the one in the Geno's catalog? Sooner or later I'm going to slip when standing on the tire for the fifth wheel hitch and I'm going to scratch up the side when digging in the tool box.

I could not get my two tool boxes and generator in with 3600 hitch and I didn't like where they put the trailer plug. It does rest on the bed but I don't think it will be a problem.
