Need some help with my 4 whl drive system stuck in 4 wheel drive.
Control knob on the dash is aligned with the 2 wheel drive mark but the transfer case shifts the system into 4 wheel drive high. That is after a number of back and forth shifts between 2 and 4 wheel on it's own.
Service 4 wheel indicator lamp is on.
I have an appointment with a shop owned by a knowledge Dodge guy next week to replace the transfer case control module but I do not like driving the pickup on pavement when it is in 4 whl. His shop is in town with a lot of turns. The shop guy said I can disconnect the front drive by disconnecting a 2 wire connector on the back side if the front differential. I've look all over the front differential on my rig and do not see any connector on it. Am I missing something?
Any other other suggestions as to how I can get the truck out of 4 wheel drive so I can drive it to the shop without breaking something would be appreciated.
My rig is a 2004.5 Ram Quad Cab Long Bed Larame, 4 whl drive diesel with NV 5600 6 speed trans

Thanks

There is no such thing on the Axle.

Disconnect the dash switch, problem solved.

The switch itself is 99% the problem, they are well known for failing from time to time, not to bad but can happen.

Oh, and you are not breaking anything on this truck by driving it in 4x4 on pavement for a short distance.
Corners are a little bumpy, straight ahead you can drive as usual.

Thanks so much Ozymandias I will get after the switch first thing in the AM.
Now I'm wondering if the control module is really the problem. Guess I will take it up with the shop guy. By the way it's interesting for me to see all the "adds" on your pickup.
I did not mention that mine is a 3500 SRW with a few adds, i.e. pacbrake, coolair intake, mag-hytech diff covers both ends, one piece drive line and a few others.

Semi off topic but how does a manual trans interface with an electronic actuated transfer case? I have a NP271D on my NV5600.

Disconnected the selector switch on the dash but the transfer case is still stuck in 4 wheel drive.
There are 2 wire harnesses connected to the transfer case. One has 2 wires and the other has a bunch. Would disconnecting either one of those help or, is the control module locked in 4 whl and the only way out of 4 whl is to replace the TCCM? Just thinking out loud here. Sorry for that.
