2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Headliner/roof questions.

Hello all. New to this forum, although I read up here quite often. I was wondering if anyone has tried to upgrade their brakes to a 4th gen set. I've read about the 3rd gen upgrades but I have a chance to get some 4th gen rotors off a 2012 and am wondering if they will work as well. So far I've only been able to determine that the rotors are slightly bigger than the 3rd gen, but the calipers are double piston.

So I guess I'm wondering if I could do the same as the 3rd gen and use my same calipers and change the pads, rotors, and bracket, or would I have to use the 4th gen caliper as well? Or neither?

Sorry y'all. I just found a thread down there posted recently asking the very same thing. Must have had a few too many last night while searching because I didn't see it. Thanks anyway.

The first thing that comes to mind is what size rims are you running? Most of the time when you're upgrading to a "newer" caliper (and/or disks), the most common problem is if the wheel is big enough for them to fit inside of. As trucks are getting bigger and heavier, their brakes are physically bigger.

Well I've already upgraded to a 17" wheel. And as far as I know, the rims haven't changed from '03 on up. So I'm thinking 17's will be good. I just don't know if I can get away with my same calipers with the 4th gen pads. I don't know much about brakes, but I'm assuming since I've read the 4th gen are dual piston then 2nd gens are single piston? I think I've just about convinced myself to to a 3rd gen upgrade and leave it at that.

what year is your truck? Mid year 01 switched to dual piston 4 wheel disc brakes, an easy swap to larger brakes. Older ones not so easy. Think the 2000s had dual piston fronts but still had drum rears. My 99 had single piston front calipers rear drums, not to mention the rotor and hub was an assembly, and I hated them. Was getting the parts together to do the ford brake conversion but sold the truck

I have a 2002. I thought I filled out my profile, but I guess it didn't work. I think I'm just going to change the front set to a 3rd gen even though the backs are disk too. I was just trying to do it for as cheap as possible because I really don't NEED to change the brakes, I just want the better stopping power that I've been reading about.
