My 07 3500 with electric or knob on dash control seams to be weak. For example when in 4 hi on a steep driveway in snow it does not pull with the front tires but rear tires spin. Driving about 10mph while engaged in 4wd it works ok and i can tell its working when i make a sharp turn because front shutters like it should. I am not sure how the transfer case is setup I think I have read that it is chain drive with clutches. I have problaly damaged it while in 4low on pavement pulling a stuck semi-truck in the ditch because the rear would spin all 4 back tires but not the front ones. This is the only time the 4wd has been abused, no boost launches on racing in 4wd. Yeah I know it was not a good idea to use 4low on pavement. Just seems my 99 f350 with manuel hubs worked alittle better. But the ford only putout 325hp where the cummins is putting out 515hp!

The case is gears and a chain... no clutches that I'm aware of.

Since it is electric, I would think that either the solenoid controlling the shift is getting weak, the solenoid isn't getting sufficient voltage, or the linkage the solenoid actuates is binding/seizing.

Have you changed the fluid lately?
