EZ Towing Report I Promised

Anyone out there using the Automatic sliding hitch like the pullrite superglide?(www.pullrite.com/glide.html)

Are these things worth the $$$$ ?
Does any one else make one that is cheaper?

I have a shortbed & thinking about getting a 5th wheel, but unsure about the clearance I will have (looking at 32' ThorIndustries).

I think Reese makes a sliding hitch, but I don't think it is automatic. You may have to get out and get your hands a little dirty #ad
. $3k seems like an awful lot of money to me for a hitch.

Before I spent $3,000 on a hitch, I'd use that $3k toward a trade for a long bed. We tow a 26ft (25ft with 18" extended pin) Jayco 5th wheel with our short bed club cab. I opted for a Reese 15k non slider at just over $420. 00. I can't go 90* with it but I can go lock to lock forward with no problem. So far it hasn't been a problem backing into tight spots either. We're looking to go to 28-31ft in our next 5th wheel. If it presents a problem, I'll go for the slider kit for the hitch I have. I've read of the folks that have them that they seldom use it or have yet to use it at all. You just have to watch out when backing up or even tight forward turns if the trailer is long enough to be a problem. But it still beats the mud out of pulling a tagalong!

$3000..... no way. I towed a 5th wheel for 5 years with a short bed. My current long bed is really no different. You just have to be more careful. I would spend the extra money for a kingpin box that comes out further if you want extra piece of mind. A moving hitch auto/or manual is just one more piece to go wrong.

I have a shortbed and a Reese sliding hitch. Like others, I really never have had to slide the hitch to get into tight spots but I have just in case. Sliding is a matter of moving a lever on the hitch and locking the trailer brakes and pull ahead slowly-locks in postion when the hitch get to rear most position, just do the reverse to move to the tow position. Hitch runs just under $700.

Got a short bed w/ Reese slider also. also have the extended pin sunnybrook. Never had to slide it back yet.

Its really no problem, but I do miss the extra space of a longbed for carrying goodies. Especially if you add a tank.

Id say buy the long bed, but if you already have a sb its no biggie. Not worth getting rid of a good reliable truck, & taking chances.

VA, DD1's, PS Boost module & elbow, BD brake... also, Nitrous Oxide piped direct into the block (stealth - to keep the warranty), 10 gallon per minute fuel pump, ECM right out of Don Garlit's Top Fueler (he gave it to me) (for letting him ride in my truck), Super Modified DD1 Injectors ("Hand Honed" with a 1/4" reamer & my 12v Makita). :) More BOMBING to come. .

Have a short bed and Reese 15k 4 way w/slider. With the extended pin on the trailer the only time I slide it is at night just in case. Mine was $650 installed at a local rv dealer. Shop around as I got prices from $650 to $900 installed.
