Good grief- ice isnt carnage . I had visions of trees on top of the trucks, or something. Sure makes for some pretty pictures, though.

DZink24- We had 3-5 inches of ice (not snow and ice like normal, straight ICE) here about a month ago. Actually, 4 weeks ago today. Stayed about a week. LOTS of downed trees. We got real lucky- didnt lose power at either house, and with 1000# of firewood in the bed of the 1wd 92, got around just fine. We figured if we got into a wreck, I have body parts for mine- No spare parts for the Dakota. I didnt think 1. 5" of ice would be any big deal that far north.

Yeah. It be. It takes off trees and powerlines. Not to mention the job it takes to get inside a vehicle. It dosen't hit here very often.

I just like the looks of it.

I have been in Puerto Rico for the last 2 weeks on business.

I can report no ice here other than in my drinks.

Back to reality friday;)

We didn't ask you and your umbrella laced drinks. Was probably work for you just to get up off the lounge chair to type that.

Put your sun glasses back on... .....

I'm surprised he could see the screen clearly enough to read all that due to the glare of the sun... ... ..... Jeeeezzz

The only up side (speaking from past experience of an 8 day wipeout of all power in my town a few years ago) is that after the clean up and tree trimming and wire stringing it takes a few years before a branch can even reach a wire.

When the power is out long enough, folks start to bring all the good stuff that would thaw if left, to churches and fire houses to be cooked.

I guess if my power went out from an ice storm, and I was worried about frozen foods thawing, my initial reaction would be to put the food outside... .

I'll try to remember that. :)

Well it was late October and it got fairly warm after the damage was done. (50's. ) No home freeze up problem at least.

Once I was living with a Canadian family and they were given 6 chickens ready for the oven. The wife asked her husband how many chickens she should keep fresh and how many to freeze. He said freeze 4 so she opened the kitchen door, and without stepping outside hung the 4 chickens on hooks on the outside wall of the house, then every now and again would rap on the chicken with her knuckles to see if they were ready for the freezer, as at that time not all freezers had the fast freeze option. ( I Love Country Folk ) ( If they can't do it. it just can't be done )

Some months later living with another Canadian family, we had been away from the house for about a week in Toronto, on coming back to the house there were icicles from the roof almost to the ground, about 6 to 7 feet long. I thought it a Beautiful sight, when she saw them she couldn't get out of the car fast enough and get a broom and smash them all down, to her those icicles meant a lazy housewife. When I left there was 3 feet of packed snow on the ground and it was snowing when I got on the bus to leave. (can you pump snow instead of shoveling it?) (much easier I bet)
