8800# and License $$$

There are a lot of folks that may be able to answer this question. I was told that the reason the GVW was set at 8800 for the 3/4 was due to licensing costs in certain areas they were sold. Kinda like the Canadian under 10 hp outboard limit. Does anybody know if this is true?

possibly, I know that personal property tax on these trucks can kill you, here in Virginia we got rid of 75% of the tax before the liberal governor got elected and put an end to that, but at least I can keep my truck with that reduction.
