What can i do to a 95 auto that is completly stock to get some more power out of it? What camplate would be a good choice? How much power would i gain by installing a set of 215 injectors out of a 96 5-speed? Where should the timing be set at?

Be careful, once you start its hard to stop. I think TST recommends not going over a #6 plate for a 95 stock automatic. By adding the plate, you will be adding more fuel, thus using 215 injectors will handle the amount better than stock. First thing to get if you haven't yet is a EGT gauge. More fuel means more heat. Someone else chime in here if I mistaken about the #6 plate. Good luck which ever way you decide to go. The trucks are with out a doubt more fun to drive after an upgrade or two. :D

It is very easy for us to give you advice on how to get more power from your Ram. The problem is, we don't know how you drive or what you use the Ram for. We also forget to emphasize the trade-off.

Each of us has our own experiences that we can share with you. Read our recommendations and experiences. When we tell you how great a mod is, ask why.

My first suggestion without a doubt would be gauges. Why - without them, you are in the dark, and run the risk of destroying your engine.

The most important gauge in my opinion is the EGT. You can destroy the engine with an empty truck going up a hill, and not have a hint until the damage is done.

I would really recommend that you follow the thread "High Egt's - Why?". I assure you, it takes very little mods for that info become extremely valuable.

When you have pretty much decided on what you want, call a relatively small vender like Piers to assist you with your decision.

For sure get gauges first... . BUT if you are a conservitive driver you wouldnt HAVE to have them first to utilize some aditional power:D, and the next thing to consiter is how much money you have to spend..... To handle the power you should call a reputible trans vender (DTT,ATS,BD,Dave G... ... )and have then do their thing:) or at least turn up the line pressure in the trans. I would go with a #6 plate (230/605) and a govenor spring kit... with that you will wonder why you drove without them for so long!

with the mods in my sig I think I am in the range of 300 HP ... . but the price now is I hav to baby it till I have the money to upgrade the trans... I can slip the tourqe converterlock-up clutch at will right now:(

Happy Bombing:)

1. How much power would you gain by installing a set of 215 injectors?

My experience is that there are several types of "power". Actual Horsepower (measured on a dyno), "theoretical power" (with calculator), "seat of your pants power" and "BS power".

I have more fun with the "seat of your pants power", but it is hard to discuss, so "Actual Horsepower" (measured on a dyno) is what I usually use.

I have 370 injectors. As I understand, when I block off the AFC, my fuel cam does not come into play. The "seat of your pants power" is there. The "theoretical power" is said to be about 40 to 60 HP. Were they worth while, yes. The 215 injectors I have not experienced.

2. Where should the timing be set? I don't know from experience, but most of what I read says 15. 5 degrees. In the near future, that is where mine will be.

My Ram currently shows 250 HP on the Dyno. This is without full acceleration due to excessive EGTs. My mods are listed on the thread "High Egt's - Why?".

I suggest go with the injectors, 3GSK (abt $125) and set the timing at 15. 5 degrees.

The most impressive single mod I made was the 3GSK. I did this before the transmission, and the transmission even liked it.

I almost forgot, I use the "BS power" (Bull S**T) on the gasser guys. :-laf Oo.

i'm not sure about towing heavy up the hills (yet), but my egts are hard pressed to hit 1150*. they can hit 1350* in OD, locked up with WOT (overboosting now), but unlocked there's nothing even close to 1200*. check my truck profile for my mods. i'm not saying that you should go without guages, but your egts shouldn't get too out of hand if you're not towing.

Stab a number six plate in there and stick it all the way forward and go from there, trust me you'll love it. Be sure and baby your transmission as it locks up and builds a little speed up, especially if you're towing. The plate itself is such a bump over the sucky stock power you won't believe it. I wouldn't bother with 215's to be honest. I ran them for awhile and didn't like them. I got about as much smoke with the 215's as I do with my 370's and not nearly as much power. I'd stick with the stock injectors and when (not if, trust me) you're ready to move up, go straight to the 370's.

The TST power chart slows a #10 as not a option with a 94-95 autos but Piers recommends it and so do I. #10, wastegated 16cm turbo housing and 4" mufflered exhaust is what I've run since 5k. Have all the power I need and have never had an egt or smoke problem. Still on the stock AT with 186k miles. It all depends on how you drive...

About the 370s...191DVs...& #5 Plate

I have the #5 plate slide all the way back and AFC forward. Would 370s and 191 DVs hurt my millage. Since the 370s are cheeper than the 215s. I think it might be time for some injectors. My truck is starting to lope more and smoke alot, even though I have the star nut on the AFC turned all the way back (for less smoke). Do the 370s give a good spray patern as the 215 , or do they just dump more fuel for more power and give less millage? THANKS

I have the #5 plate full to the rear, AFC housing full rear, starwheel 1/8" to rear & no preload on AFC diaphram. This was done to reduce EGT's and reduce smoke it helped a lot and my accleration times reduced only minimally. :D See my sig. for other mods. :D

Good Luck Bombing

Any additional fueling without gauges is like not having car insurance, yes you can get away with it but look at the cost if you dont. There is a good chance that by going to 370s (which are great) with the early P pump that you will have to install larger delivery valves as some have experienced a "stumble" in 1200-1300 rpm range. The good thing is they arnt hard to install and are good for more HP too. DO THE GAUGES. At least EGT the rest arnt essential.

200 hp / 550 ft-lb with a #10 plate , scroll back up to my first reply and click on the link , then scroll down there is a cam plate chart . that should give you the full story . 1 Dslram if I go to a #5 plate with a stock motor what could I expect   as for as smoke and EGT's
