96 12 valve stock as the day it was bought. This is on my friends 2nd Gen. 12 valve. Changed the NV4500 transmision and new SouthBend clutch and new flywheel over the weekend, and now with the clutch depressed and turning ing key to start-- NOTHING. Will not turn over. Battery tests good. Had no problem until we changed the trans, clutch, and flywheel.

I am thinking it is in the wire conectors on the trans.

If the two conectors are not making good connection could this prevent the engine from turning over ?. One is for the speedo for sure. The other one is for the backup lights when in reverse ? (not sure).

Any help much appreciated.

Bob

There is a safety switch that is depressed when the clutch pedal is pushed down that completes the start circuit. Check if the pedal/linkage is making contact with that switch.

The Clutch Sarter interrupt switch as mentioned before - but you had the starter off to put in the clutch - check to make sure that you have the wires connected correctly on the starter.

AWray,

The safety clutch switch is ingaged. That was the first thing we thought of also.

redram,

We didn't remove the starter to change the flywheel, clutch, trans. No need to.

Back to the 2 electrical plugs that connect to the NV4500.

One is for the speedo for sure, and the other one is for what i am really not sure.

any help ?.

The backup light switch is located at the left (driver)

side of the cover. On the automatic, the output speed sensor is on the tailshaft housing. Not sure where on the NV4500. I understand on some it is on the differential, both front and rear.

Additional problems discoverd... ... ...

In addition to the CTD not cranking (could be the clutch safety switch, probably) we have discovered the flywheel won't move. We put in new flywheel bolts and were very careful about making sure they matched the old ones.

So, tomorrow (Christmas) we are going to pull down the NV4500 (5speed) remove the new Southbend clutch and new flywheel and start from scratch. Going slow and making sure everything is just right each step of the way.

Any sugestions ?

Bob

Were the new flywheel bolts from Cummins? They are metric, torque to 101 ft lb. Don't use inferior bolts, or bolts that are too long. Be sure to keep the washers under the bolt heads.
