Has anybody installed an "Aero-Turbine" Muffler? They are making some pretty impressive claims for performance, fuel mileage increase, and sound.

I would appreciate any feedback on this product. Check out their website, www.aero-turbine.com I talked to them on the phone and they said I could expect a 3 mpg increase, who could turn that down?

Hmm. . this is interesting... They sell SS 304 mufflers, with diesel mufflers at the beginning of the price list, and supposedly the 'first' muffler they designed, was for a 2003 CTD... . Yet they have all gasser specs in the dyno page. Hmm.

Well, I bought a 4" Pinnacle exhaust system to replace the bad exhaust I had on my truck when I bought it. Paid 300 for a full kit with a Magnaflow muffler. . probably has given me more HP, but I havent dyno'd. Would I pay 200$ for a muffler? hmm. . duno. .

could be a good product, but pricey. I always say, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isnt true. Claims of 2-3mpg on just a muffler. . i dunno about that. .

just my 2c

it's snake oil plain and simple... I've held a cutaway version in my hands... a traditional straight through resonator/muffler will flow better/work better/yield better mileage/etc.

Snake oil... ... I don't think so. Yes they are a little high, but what isn't these days. I never bought one for the increased power of mileage, I real don't care about either one, I bought one to see if it would help eliminate the drone associated with the larger free flowing exhaust systems. They have a different way of looking at the problem, their thinking is most definitely "Out of the Box", and I find it refreshing.

I installed the Aero Turbine muffler 18" in front of my Hog Performance muffler, it was very easy, just cut out a section and refit the new muffler into place. The first thing you will notice is the exhaust note is much different, sound levels are lower and the exhaust has a "Whooshing" sound to it, a little like a leek in a high pressure air line. For me, the best part came on the road and while towing, the awe full drone was reduced in both sound level and in RPM range. With some additional work in insulating both cab and exhaust system, I have gotten the interior sound levels down to exceptional levels. Radio's can be heard and conversations can take place at normal levels, I simply love the way my insulating efforts have turned out, way past what I thought was possible. And yes the Aero turbine muffler was apart of that effort. For me the 220. 00 bucks was money well spent, it did what I wanted it to do.

I too have an Aeroturbine, but on my 03

I have the Aeroturbine solo on my wife's 03 and it's great. She's getting approx 23 mpg.

I think all the SS mufflers are high in the same price range.

I'm really not trying to bash a product or producer. I'm sure the Aeroturbine reduces drone... just like any good resonator would. I have held a cutaway version in my hand, and it is a quality product. I just believe the same or better results could be obtained at 1/4 the price.

as for stainless? we don't salt the roads down here, and diesel exhaust doesn't rust from the inside, so aluminumized will last for ever for me.

YMMV, and if you like it, more power to ya, but there's lots of other stuff I would rather spend $200 on. heck, I got my entire 5" exhaust SYSTEM for $330!

Forrest

I'm glade you got your exhaust so cheap, and that you feel the aluminized exhaust will last you FOREVER, maybe, maybe not who knows or cares. Where I live it shear stupidity to buy anything but stainless steel for the exhaust, they are not that much more and yes I believe they WILL last forever. I suppose if you do not plan of keeping your truck long, or if you only leased it, then who cares right? Just get enough to get by. I have mine paid for and will never sell it, so my plans are long term, and I kind of have an addiction to the shiny stuff.

Yes the Aero is high, but there are member paying as much for a TAG unit, and many feel it is in your words, "Snake OIL".

I feel the same way about the TAG.

stainless is nice and will last forever. down here, aluminumized pipe on a diesel will last 20-30yrs+ no problem.

the outlet on my HT3B is 5". why would I neck it down to 4"?

Forrest

I have aluminized on my 02, but Aero-turbine on my 03

Forrest:

Exhaust systems are another discussion topic with spirited opinions. What is great for some, sucks for others. I can't say conclusively that either exhaust system on my trucks do much more than sound good. And even the sound aspect is pretty subjective.

One thing that is pretty safe to say: You are happy with what you have and I'm happy with mine (snake oil and all) :D

BTW, I'm curious what an Aeroturbine sounds on an 2d Gen. I wasn't curious enough to remove the BD off my 02 to try it.

Take care and keep on truck'n

Keep on being the same!

Keep on being the same. You're right about the bogus claims on the Aeroturbine. It does flow good and sounds nice, but everthing else is "snake oil. "

Take care, Wiredawg
