I need to replace my control arm bushings and figured I would just replace the whole arms with something aftermarket. This will also help save my tires which do rub on the control arms.

What aftermarket arms are people using?

Rancho, Kore... other??

Happy?

Ted,

I used the aftermarket Skyjacker control arms. They are the ones that are slightly longer to accomodate the D25 spring's. Have not had a problem with them yet.

I have had my eyes on these. Price is O. K for me.

BDS makes stock length ones that you can buy sperately, and I have a Dick Cepeck 2" kit on mine that has the top spacer and beefy stock length lowers. While they don't add any more clearance, I was in the same boat the bushings were shot any way. Added benifit is that they are so much stronger. I don't know the price for the BDS ones but I just got another DC complete kit shipped to me for about $180... .

Thanks Kevin i had not thought about the Skyjackers. You have not had any problems with the heim joints? They are know for breaking on more lifted truck.

I looked at the DT arms as i already have a DT track bar but I would prefer a boxed design so when the tires contact it does not tear up the inside of the tire.

I have the DT arms. Good price for a quality product.

Not sure if any arms themselves will help prevent tire rub!?

Skyjacker has some without the heim joints also

Yeah, like mine.

Plus my control arm is pipe shaped. (round) so when the tire rubs, (which isn't often) it doesnt chew up the tire.

Also when I was researching control arms someone stated here on the TDR that th DT contol arms had a problem with them mounting on a 2001. Do a search.

Do you have a part number for your skyjacker arms? I could not find them on there web site. Or may be it only listed lowers not upper, I can't remember right now.

Thanks

Ted

I think I found it.

Here's a link. However it only lists it for 3500's. Cant understand why?

I looked up the part number on Skyjackers website and it says it's for a 96?

I would give them a call to confirm but basically they have 3 different versions.

1. Standard link (what I have) No heim joints either end.

2. Single Flex - One heim joint on the end.

3 Double flex 2 heim joints on either end.

Hope it helps.

Oh by the way. I replaced JUST THE LOWERS on my rig.

Does anyone know how to change the stock bushings? I tried to pry beat mine out last night and they never moved. Do I need to press them out?

If I where to buy the sky jacker lower control arms dll23. Does that means I no longer have an adjustable caster? They are advertised to be 1/2" longer than stock. I assume that the added length is supposed to put the caster back to stock specs. Am I going along the right path or a dangerous one?

I have been following this thread because I to plan to rebuild my front end this spring (or when ever the new shop gets finished) . I have bought everything for the job from all new Polly bushings to Fox reservoir shocks. Their is nothing wrong with my stock front control arms, and the stock bushings are still very tight. I Just wanted a slightly longer control arm to offset for the added height. I contacted Sky jacker and there products seem to be very well built, they are the only lift company that has passed the German TUF, a independent certification much like our UL Listing, that rates vehicle manufacturers and the aftermarket. This alone speaks volumes for Skyjacker products. The DT control arms look a little to rough for me, they do not have the finished look of a well made product. While they made be strong? I don't know, but they do not have that finished look of a well crafted piece. my opinion... .

I have contacted CORE about there race series control arms, the black ones not the aluminum CNC machined ones with Hime joints. They appear to be well made and finished. The control arms that were shown on the E-bay site didn't Impress me at all, they looked weak. I would stay away from them and anything else that looks like that, with no name. Again my Opinion...

I am also looking for a replacement for my front springs, i would like to get a more progressive spring. Something that rode better, an still had the strength to hold up the front end with a HD bumper and winch. Again Core has front springs, but I don't think they have the progressive springs for the older trucks. I contacted Sky jacker about there springs and I am waiting for a reply. I am also exploring the possibility of removing the front springs and replacing them with air bags. Again still waiting on a reply.

I want some arms with better bushings, ability to adjust lower arms with threaded rods, and priced under $900.

Possible?

I want to get rid of the cam adjuster system on the lower arms.

As I use my truck off road alot, and the cams and sheet metal brackets on the front axle arent looking so great.
