Thanks for this information. I have some of the Die Hard Platinum's in my truck. I ruined a set last summer. Had my truck camper on the truck connected to shore power. It was on there for about a few days while we prepped for an upcoming trip. I have a modern 3-way charge controller in the camper, but it still "boiled" the AGM batteries. I went out to the truck on the morning we were to leave and found a spout of acid coming up from the passenger side battery! Needless to say our trip was a little delayed and my wallet a lot lighter!

My wife's Parents have motorhome that they take south during the winters (not Lately) FIL was wanting to put AGM batteries in the bus because the Batteries are a ROYAL PAIN IN THE BUTT to check, you would think that for the price that was paid for the thing they would have gave it a little more thought to the ease of the procedure. He finally did put AGM batteries in but has a battery cutoff switch installed, the shop that installed the batteries told him the same thing that he didn't want to be hooked up to shore power with AGM batts and that the charge controllers aren't sophisticated enough (at least back when this was done) to charge the AGM batts and run the bus on shore power. So he hooks up turns a switch, it cuts off the batteries from the circuit and prevents the overcharge.

Overcharging is a problem with the AGMs on older systems. But in your truck, if you're running with no drain on the batteries at all, I'd be surprised. There is considerable draw on newer trucks simply from the electronic engine systems, let alone anything you may have on in the cab, such as the blower motor and radio. Of course, the exact voltage on most of our trucks also varies by a few tenths on every truck, so one truck may work well with the AGMs, and another may not..... That's the nature of the beast. The new lead/acid batteries are getting such thin plates from the manufacturer, it's a miracle they last as long as they do... .

I've got three sets of the AGM Orielly's brand heavy duty batteries, and there is 3 years on the first set. So far, so good.

The new series of AGMs from Orielly's is labeled Platinum..... $155

They also offer a Heavy Duty 34 series which is considerably heavier than the standard automotive battery... . More plate?!? I haven't coughed up the $122 to find out... ...
