Avi, wrench day at your house sooner then you thought. Lets do it. And one more thing about this freebie stuff going on, I know for a fact that bob4x4's truck was abused for this testing on the dyno, not many people put up their personal trucks(45,000$) for that kind of punishment. So thank you bob for doing this for us, now we know it works and I will be changing my banks high ram as soon as possible.

Jake

Abuse on a dyno I know all about. May fifth at the Drive in ring any bells? Pizza was the only freebie and it was great.

Wrench day this Saturday at my house to install Dwights gauges. PM me for details.

I just have to find time to make a trip up. Not going to happen in the next month or so, I have a very full calendar until mid-end of July. If the TDR club has a dyno day I can probably get into the dyno twice. The fellow who has the shop is a real nice guy, I'm sure he will be fine with 2 dynos.

CDonaldson-Let me know if you dyno in ABQ, with or without NMTDR. I will bring along my CFM+ and we can test it along with the others.

Stopped by AFE tonight, couldn't ask for a better group of guys... ... Learn something new on every visit. Going to go out to Pismo and share some non work time with them soon.

Jake you got that right:-laf

Well I recieved my intake from Glacier Diesel, some things I noticed:

1. The pinch area inside the runner at the mounting bolts totally eliminated. this piece is very nice. :)

2. No sharp short turns in the runner design, as a sharp short turn would decrease air flow. :)

3. This intake is 3" from one end to the other, unlike the factory piece.

Overall design should definitely help when installed with other pieces that are restrictive as well. The way the factory intake is designed on the inside is EXTREMELY restrictive compared to this intake. This intake will definitely aid in Air Flow Resistance.

Richard even done a custom color for me in Red Hammertone, thanks Richard I am very happy with this piece, I hope others check into your product, I for one would reccomend it! :)

I am glad Richard took good care of you and you like the intake horn. Like I said, very well thought out and constructed. I spoke with Richard when I ordered mine, he went to great lengths to get the design right. I think it is a superior product that will more than do a good job at eliminating the downside of the stock design. It is attractive, does the job, who could ask for more.

One of the things that has kept me off the dyno has to do with the un-necessary engine abuse the high RPM's would do to my engine. I am not a person to do things without considering their overall effect. If I was into sled pulling or 1/4 mile runs I might have already been there to test my stuff and know what was what performance wise. So it is a little hard to become motivated to dyno just to prove a number or two about something that has physical/visual evidence regarding design improvements staring you in the face when having it side-by-side with the stock part. To me it is all about a cumulative effect of an entire system and knowing the contribution of each part makes the whole.

I have noticed a little reduction in EGT's and a little better fuel economy, that says what I have done has improved my system as a whole. Every gain is a plus. With the current changes in EGT's I am a more happy camper knowing that I have reduced one of the greater enemies to my overall engine life. The couple mpg's gain will over time pay for the part in the long run as well. Even if it take 4 or 5 years for that cost to be covered, I plan on keeping this truck a long time and am not really concerned about how many HP I gained but rather more in tune with improving overall function of the system.

I will check into and consider the dyno, but I am not making it a priority at this time, as I am seeing gains in function. I really think to do a good comparison of all the intake horns they would have to be tested on the same truck, that guarantees an integrity of the test. Otherwise, the numbers are only relative to the specific truck and it's setup, they would only be hypothetically relevant to other trucks.

OK lots of great information here. First, being "Old School" if you will, what ever happened to K&N? Is their intake not even an option now-a-days? Don't get me wrong here, but the last "mod" I did was on a '71 Chevelle about 17 years ago. I've been starting to get my '05 CTD up to par and installed ISOPro gauges last week (very pleased). Looking to add an intake (muffler, lift, tires, and a Smarty in the near future too), seems like AFE's up close to the top. I like the "advertised" performance gains too.

First, what order should I add the mods (i. e. intake, Smarty, lift, then muffler) ?? Does it matter ?? Note: everything is stock today and I do not want to damage anything going from point A to point B during the process. Also, $_dollars_$ for the lift are still accruing if you understand where I'm coming from (Lorenz). :-laf

Second, if going with the AFE, is the Stage II too much for my stock system? (Not that I want to spend the $400 now and not gain from the advantages until I add something like a larger turbo or injectors, etc. ??)

Third, if I do upgrade my Turbo or injectors later down the road, will I be eventually upgrading the intake to catch up on that end (i. e I buy the AFE Stage I, rather than the Stage II, today and having to upgrade later).

Thank you in advance for all your support.

DMarkle, the intake we have been talking about is the actual air intake going into the intake manifold. As for your other questions, you've done the gauges, thats a first no matter what, need to know whats going on. next a AFE stage 2 pro-dry s cold air kit and eliminate the muffler, if ya don't mind the way they sound without a muffler. 2nd some type of power adder(injectors, box) 3rd. upgrade fuel pump system (FASS, Airdog, whosever) 4th transmission upgrades. 5th. another power adder. 6th. Turbo. 7th. Stage 2 AFE is not to much for your stock system. 8. well it just doesn't want to end, :-laf, hope this helps ya, and good luck.
