The reason I'm doing it is convenience. I want to be able to drop the pan easily, clean the pan out, change the filter, put on the new gasket and reinstall the pan without dropping the crossmember. That way I can do it any time I want. No crossmember lowering needed, no jack needed to support the transmission while the crossmember is lowered. Transmission service can be done other ways, but for me I can modify the crossmember, it doesn't reduce the reliability or structural integrity of the truck in any way, and it makes it more convenient for me!
