I think a little black cloud is hanging over me.....I'm on foot if I don't get something fixed tonight....:(

(1) Week ago Saturday ran the Yukon to Bangor, take dog to vet and run errands. Backed it in the driveway Saturday night and all good. Started it up Sunday and instrument cluster is lit up like a Pinball Machine....
ABS light on, Service Stabilitrack message and Service Traction Control message....I think that means Front Wheel Bearing from my past experience with GM's...

Ordered Wheel Bearing / Hub Assy from Amazon, out of stock but did ship this past Friday...

(2) Drove Hoopty home Friday night in a hurry trying to catch Grandson's Little League game, make the turn into the parking lot and Temp Gauge spikes, electric fans start running full speed. Jump out and leave it. After game check coolant, check to make sure water pump belt still in place, check for leaks. Nothing jumps out at me. Run it home, temp normal until I turn onto my road and then the needle starts climbing. Turn heater on and ............. NO HEAT!! Crap, Crap, Crap........
Check it again Saturday morning and I got it hot enough to catch it blowing DEXCOOL out the expansion tank...
At 207,000 miles Hoopty has left the building and gone to join Elvis....it's over for that car...

(3) Hook fifth wheel to the truck and strike out for Beals Island yesterday...had to make a fairly hard stop thanks to a car, then everytime I apply the brakes I get a shudder....great.....keep checking it and for a while it acted like a sticking piston in the right front wheel....but then I could hear a little noise as well. Got the trailer in place, ate chowdah, stayed overnight.
Coming back this morning empty I'm leaning towards a wheel bearing. I could make a noise everytime I shoved it through a corner......will tear that apart tonight or tomorrow night to evaluate and get parts coming.

for your next commuter vehicle may I suggest owning a Panhead or an old Triumph motorcycle.
those will keep you mechanically entertained forever in some of the most inconvenient places

For Maine winters it would need to be a Ural(AKA Urinal)with a driven sidecar wheel. About the same level of crudeness. Think of it as a Russian Canned-Ham Spyder, Mike...
 
MWilson, look on the bright side. at least all of them crapped out at su casa.

the last 2 vehicles I had that crapped out on me did it in the middle of the Everglades.
old Harley blew a hole in her crankcase at 3 am at MM58 on Alligaotr Alley, try getting your OL to answer the phone at 3am when she's laid out on Ambien, and go out in the back and figure out to kook up a trailer and come get you.

or the Cavalier gives up the ghost in just about the same place ( as far as you can get from any form of civilization in South Florida) and you walk five miles to the closest rest area because the phone has no signal, and then get the same ambien loaded woman to come get you at 4am... meanwhile the FHP impounds the car and it costs you 600 bucks in towing charges.. whether you want the car or not.
 
Just watching Mecum Auto Auction while jamming down supper....no cheap beaters there.....:(:(

Hooked the scanner onto the Yukon, RF wheel speed sensor supply........I think the wheel bearing diagnosis is spot on...

Maybe get that changed tomorrow night. Hoping the truck has one more trip left in it to Bangor and back......
 
Well. It continues.....

Sandy left the island to come home last night, went to bring the slide in and only one side moved. Put it back out and left it.

Now I have a slide issue 3 hours away on an island with like no place to get anything other than a used anchor or something... looks like I'm studying up on Lippert Electric Slides over the weekend....:rolleyes:
 
If it is anything like mine there is a tube that runs the length of the slide on the inside of the frame with a crappy spot weld that broke allowing the tube to move forward off of the gear. Putting the slide all the way out (may require some pushing from the inside) or all the way in the tube will slide back onto the gear shaft.

I know what you mean Wilson, Hurricane Wilma musta weakened a few more trees than I thought and just had one fall in the front yard. thought I'd cut it up today and bring another dead pine down while I was at it.. fuggin chain saw made it thru one tree and into another and decided to start leaking gas. go play with that, can't figure it out except to say it leaks gas out the exhaust with the gas cap off and stops as soon as you seal the tank.... now the POS won't start..

Wow, would a stuck needle / float cause that?? The only thing I can think of that would behave like that in a gravity fed system.
 
Just think, a clean hoopty with a blown HG will probably fetch enough money to drive away in a clean running TDI :p

Just filled up last night on my 01, 621 miles on the tank and had to SQUEEZE 13 gallons in. No plans on departing from that car anytime soon.

Thanks Dave, that may well be the issue.

And I'm not *****en' really, it's a 2004 and for a relatively poorly constructed unit it has done us well.
 
So a chain saw all position carburetor has two sides, the pump side and the metering side. The pump side has two "flappers" on a diaphragm that uses crankcase pulse to pull fuel from the tank whether upright, upside down, or sideways. The metering side has a diaphragm with a button or a pin at the center which actuates a needle via the metering lever, that also uses crankcase pulse to meter the fuel being moved by the pump side into the engine based on RPM. It is usually a viton needle on a hard seat, but sometimes a hard needle with a replaceable viton seat. If fuel is running through, then chances are there is debris under the needle, or it has a ridge in it.

On Edit: If the saw has a primer, it will generally have a plate sandwiched on one side of the carb, and they can also have a stuck check valve.

X2 on the TDI but Mike may not be able to find one. Every TDI that is still running and is owned by someone they will not part with them.

My wife had her Jetta TDI in for service and the service manager asked her if she would be interested in selling her car after she had expressed interested in a 2018 Tiguan. I was with her and asked if this car offered a Diesel engine (I know that VW doesn't offer any) and he said no. My response was sorry no sale. He stated that he had customers lined up for used Diesel cars but can't find any to sell.
 
Mike, if your underbelly is covered be prepared to drop it. I can see the tracks for the slide when it's out and the tube that falls loose is 12ish inches inboard of the tracks.

That's about how I figured it was going to play out, I'll have to drop the belly covers.
