Is there any possible shread of truth in the Allison automatic transmission going into the Ram in mid-2001?

Found this on the Ford site. Guy heard it from a dealer.

Transmission thing only undecided item holding up my order. BTW, still haven't heard any negatives about the 6-speed manual in the Y2K trucks... except availability.

Ive heard that DC would have the Allison behind the Cummins. If they are, when will they do it is something only DC knows. Auto makers are known to keep secrets better than the Pentagon.

Michael,

At the TDR Nationals I and some others kept pressing the Chrysler reps. about the Allison transmission and the reluctance of Chrysler to approve an exhaust brake on their automatic. After their standard,"We aren't able to and will not discuss future products... ... . " answer thay did admit that DC will come out with an "automatic compatable with an exhaust brake and that it would NOT be an Allison".

I know that they keep secrets better than the Pentagon and sometimes they deny the exact thing they eventually do, but somethings do point to the truths in what they are saying---especially about the Allison 1000 series automatic transmission. That transmission is being advertised with the Duramax engine in the GM product.

Now with GM advertising the Duramax and Allison combination as the best combination in the heavy duty pickup market, I don't see them giving up that market advantage to Dodge by letting them have the Allison, especialloy since Allison is owned by GM. But I've seen GM make dumb moves before.....

Whatever the outcome, anything wether its Eaton,Allison or whoever, would have to be an improvement over the 47. I have not had any problems with mine, only 8k on it,and a lot of guys dont. But that shadow of doubt about this transmission hangs over my head. As I told tinsmith a while back, any sign of transmission trouble and the truck is gone.

Did you guys also see on the 6. 2 & 6. 5 site, that Chebby will be using the ZF 6spd manual behind their Duramax.
