You members that are using the new Amsoil ATF-3 are You pleased with it's performance?
Has any one pulled loads to get a good idea how it does there?

The local Diesel performance shop has been experimenting with the new Amsoil ATF +3/+4 ever since it was first released on the market, with mixed results. Recently they have been seeing the best results with the Mopar brand ATF +3/+4. As I prefer to use synthetic, I elected to switch from the scheduled addition of the new Amsoil ATF +3/+4 (for my transmission upgrade project) to the Red Line 7176 ATF +3. I was warned that the Red Line had also proven to exhibit some drivability problems however, as I have also been a long time user of Red Line products, I was going to go for it, regardless (Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!) #ad
The Red Line has proven to work exceptionally well (in my transmission), exhibiting no perceived slippage or TCC chatter.

Would any of these negatives be an issue if using in the transfer case and not the transmission?

Rick: absolutely not, as most of the drivability problems have been centered around TCC shudder upon lockup or degraded shifting qualities. In fact, I've been using Red Line's D4 synthetic ATF since about 5k mi. in my 241HD at the recommendation of Dave Granquist (Red Line tech. ). The D4 has a higher viscosity than the Chrysler 7176 ATF +3. Although it shouldn't be used in the transmission of the 47RE, it works extremely well in the transfer case. When I had my transmission modifications made recently, they changed the ATF in the transfer case to the same ATF used in the transmission (Red Line synthetic 7176 ATF +3) as well as changing my transfer case output shaft seal for free (I supplied the seal). #ad

BTW, my '98. 5 owners manual states that either Chrysler 7176 type 3 or Dexron 4 can be used in the transfer case. The Red Line D4 is equivalent to the Dexron 4 spec. ATF.
