Just got through reading this and am interested in both the frantz and the motor guard... ..... especially since some have had sealing problems with the frantz. I have a motor guard air filter on my plasma cutter and the seal is very robust... ... . even subjected to 135 psi of air, so I don't believe that the motor guard would ever have leak problems. I realize the frantz leak problems are probably from faulty sealing rings/o-rings/whatever, just looks like less chance of the motor guard leaking.
One thing I would like to throw out is how different engine oils are supposed to run cleaner... ..... and how the majority believe that if they are using oil brand X and their oil stays cleaner than with oil brand Z that oil brand X is better. Please note that I am not referring to by-pass filters at all with this portion of my post. Anyway, it has always been my impression that the dirtier running oil brand is doing its job better by keeping contaminants in suspension... ... whereas the "cleaner" looking brand is allowing more stuff to settle out in the pan and/or deposits build up. Carbon on the rings, sludge in the pan, etc. Anybody want to comment on this? I'm no expert and don't claim that I am correct with my understanding... ..... I just want someone with a better understanding to clarify this for me. Thanks.
Nice to bring up a good old thread too!
