That's right, you saw it correct, that's what I found today. So if you missed the first group deal, this must be for you. I'm not interested (already have a DOR) so I'm a neutral party here. I just know there are alot of members interested in these kind of bumpers.

I just got off the phone with Layne (of Denver Off-Road Bumper fame) and he is now a North American distributor for Ute Bumpers. I guess he's cornering the market for high quality, heavy duty aluminum bumpers. I was calling orginally to shoot the breeze and see if he would ever be interested in a DOR group purchase (since someone inquired about it on the board) but in true form he said he can't go any faster with them and won't sacrifice quality. Only a factory item would work with consumer demand anyway.

Layne is collecting the names of interested at 970-858-8400.

Of course the first thing anyone that reads this is going to ask is, "How much?". The Ute polished aluminum bumper is being offered for $1500/ea plus shipping. Add $100 for a winch plate. He said he needs a minimum order of 15 to make the deal happen. Anyone know what the first run was priced at?

Here's a few pics from a previous thread:

and try a quick search on ute for other threads on them.

So if this sounds like something you'd be interested in you can call Layne and get all the details. Hope this helps someone.

Sregorb,

Thanks for the info! :D

I'll be speaking with Layne in the next few days.

Now, this really muddies the water... Layne's got the UTE and the DOR... Oo.

Life is complicated... LOL

Stew

If my memory is correct, the first run was $1100 plus shipping. I'm going to give Layne a call and get one or the other.

To muddy the waters even more... I recently swapped my DOR bumper for a Ute Bullbar.

I've been friends with Layne since I first started building the EarthRoamer in 1998, and Layne makes a high quality, heavy duty hand crafted bumper. But...

When I saw the Ute Bullbar, I was blown away with it's awesome styling. The Ute is different from the DOR in that the winch mount is a separate steel mount on the Ute. The Ute also mounts the winch at frame level, I like that. The Ute has integrated vent holes and turn signals, and my two sets of Hella HIDs fit perfectly.

They're both great bumpers, either way, you can't go wrong.

ps. If your wife wants to make your Christmas really special, I have a black powdercoated DOR bumper I'm willing to part with!

Goodyears on ER?

Bill, are my eyes correct in seeing the MTRs on the ER? I remember you raving about the XZLs off-road, but they were speed limited on the hwy.

I HAVE to have a UTE!! (but I will settle for the old DOR of the Earthroamer:)

Goodyear MTR

Yes, those are Goodyear MTR 37x12. 5. The next issue of the TDR will have a full report, but here are the details...

E Load rating

Rated at 4080 pounds at 65 psi

Speed rated to 93 mph

I recently put 4,000 miles on them on a trip to the SEMA show in Vegas and to see the Baja 1000 in La Paz Mexico. Quite simply, they are amazing. This is the best tire I have ever used on the EarthRoamer for highway driving. I haven't given them a good off road workout yet, but I anticapate they will work well.

any deal for powder coated...

Will the group purchase also apply towards a powder coated one or just the polished aluminum? If it does apply do we know how much it would be?

the Ute only comes in polished alum. If you're after a powder coated one just call Layne and get a Denver Off-Road bumper! I've got one and love it.

Or get ahold of Bill (Earthroamer) before he sells his DOR bumper... .

Brian

Come to think of it, since Layne does his own bumper's coating (contracts it out I think) check to see if he can take a Ute and powder coat it at the same place that does his DOR bumpers!

Just brainstorming here... .

Brian

ps. Unfortunately it's more like a light drizzle.

I thought I read in the last TDR Mag that Earthroamer was being sponsored by Alcoa and Michelin and was now running 19. 5 inch Alcoa's and Michelin rubber

Earthroamer UTE looks black to me...
