can a vp be dying and not show any codes? my truck is surging, feels like low on power then it comes back. i noticed it 3 years ago but only when it is cold outside, i was blaming it on the comp. but now i have the smarty installed on 8 and the comp off it is still there even more noticible. the first 2 years my fp gauge was reading 0 in the cold but i thought there may be moisture in the sending unit but that was not the case when i changed my fuel filter it would not prime. now i have a fass and presure is good. i have no problem buying a vp if that will cure the problem.

Yes Greg, the VP can die without showing any codes. My original VP just shut off in the middle of the road. It never threw a code even after it died. I've seen several trucks since then that have had similar failures. In fact, we replaced one on my neighbor's truck a few weeks ago that died without a code.

Besides the surging, are you getting any other symptoms... . dead pedal, hard start, stalling, white smoke at idle, etc?

nothing else, but there is white smoke when its real cold out and driving down the road? it only surges when it is cold out, in the past summers theres nothing seems normal.

Mine just died pulling away from a stop sign. The only hints were a "Surge" shifting the AT into reverse (gagagGAGAGAga sound), and I had a weak lift pump the summer before (6 PSI). It just shut down with only a P1693 code  My shop guy has the laptop w/ the right software and told me it was a "Rotor Shaft Sheared Failure". New VP44 and she's good as gold again :) Moose00

I am thinking now that it is my tps, it seems to act up at one place in the throttle movement if i put the go pedel down it seems to go good. how can i check if the tps is bad?

I also have a "map sensor voltage too high for too long" code would this have anything to do with it?
