My block is well represented by the big three. My next door neighbor Jerry just bought a new 2500 crew cab Chevy with a Duramax, I have my Dodge, and two doors down Mark has a 2004 Ford F250 super cab with the Power stroke.
Anyway, I don’t think you would be any better off with the Chevy crew cab than the Dodge Quad cab. I sat in the back of the Chevy, it did not seem to have any more room than the Dodge, the only difference was that the back seats were very short, and a little more reclined than the Dodge. In fact the seats were so short I don’t think the headrests would do me a bit of good in an accident, my head would just smack the back glass. Having the seats reclined a bit more was nice though. The other weird thing about the Chevy was how the back door is set up; it just felt very awkward to me to get in and out of the back seat. The way the opening is you have to climb in towards the front seats, then sit back, it is difficult to describe, you can’t just slide in.
The Ford super cab is tiny, but their Crew cab is roomy. The wife and I spent a lot of time in a Ford Crew cab at the San Diego auto show. The back seat is very roomy, there is nothing else like it made by any of the other manufactures. For us, the cab was a downside, because it was so huge that the pickup ended up being limousine length, which is not an option where we live and drive. But if interior room is what you need, it may be your best option……. but it is a Ferd…. . unless you can wait some unknown amount of time to see if Dodge really will come out with a real crew cab……. .
Really,
Take the family, and go invade a dealership and pile into a quad cab Dodge, you may just like it. With how big you are, you will probably have to have you oldest sit behind your wife, or in the middle, but at least give the 3rd generation quad cab a try.
